How to swim in the Arctic Ocean
How I did it: I drove from California, up to Fairbanks AK. I then followed the unpaved Dalton highway (formerly the Haul Road) north, paralleling the oil pipeline for 500 miles till I reached Deadhorse Alaska. The workers there thought is was really odd to see a Honda Civic with California plates way up there. I took a tour of the oil fields in a yellow school bus. The driver pulled up to the ocean, stopped the bus, pulled out a box of towels and asked if anyone wanted to join the Polar Bear Club. What was I going to say, no? I got off the bus, stipped down to my underwear and headed into the below freezing temerature water. After wading out about 75 feet the water was still only waste deep but that was enough for me to dive all the way under. The cold didn't hit me until I had gotten out and was dressed up again. I was cold but not a normal kind of cold. My chest felt cold on the inside and I knew, any more then a few minutes and my skinny body would not have been able to handle the chill. I was fine though and I'm totally glad I did it!
Lessons & tips: Just go for it!

It would be great to skinny dip in the Arctic Ocean, then sign the log book that is there and see all the other crazy people who did it, too. I can only hope that the day I finally get there, that the polar bears really are pushing each other around on sleds and drinking Cokes.
