I’ve decided that having cream in my coffee is a pleasure for me, and since my coffee consumption is low enough that it’s not bad for me, I’m going to keep this treat on my allowable list.
I’m thinking that it might be easier to eliminate coffee all together than to just eliminate cream.
I’d miss those Sunday mornings at the Bean Scene, though.
During my teenage years I drank my coffee black, I’m sure because that fit the image of my angst-ridden youth. Somewhere along the line I started to drink it with cream. And when I became a barrista I stopped drinking drip altogether.
Latte consumption decreased and regular coffee increased, but this time with flavor cream (preferably Irish Cream). When I moved to the UK I couldn’t find the non-dairy International Delight Irish Cream, so I would buy the cheap Bailey’s knock-off as a substitute.
I only drink one cup a day, which I make at home, but when I visit people I have the hassle of having to either pour in a LOT of milk or bring along my own creamer.
I’m thinking that if I switch to black coffee I can eliminate the hassle.
I just have to drink it with milk (preferably milk – not cream). in a pinch I’ll use cream or even that crappy “creamer” stuff over a straight black coffee. Heck, I’ve been known to use powdered milk in my coffee to prevent having to drink it black.
But I fear I’m missing out on the true flavor of the coffee. And… it can sometimes be difficult to find milk or cream. Not to mention the calories, the cost, the inconvenience of always having to have fresh milk at both work AND home.
So I’m going to try and ween myself (heh!) off the milk. I might just have to buy better coffee to make this work. Unless I’m having guests over, I just drink Folgers.
