Win a running race 10 months ago

i probably will try for a 5 k this summer 2009 , at my local 4th of july festival. I’m running the half marathon april 18th in slc then I think I’ll try to just work on improving my speed which right now i’m only doing about an 11 minute mile so i have a long ways to go but its okay! I CAN DO IT!!! :)

Thanksgiving Day Turkey Trot. It’s a township sponsored fun community race and if you win, you get a turkey. I’ve participated this race every year since I was 3. Now my 10th year, my parents decided not to take me. Even though I had never won, I liked running and I hated breaking traditions so my older brother drove me. He waited in the car as I lined up to race.

I still don’t know how it happened, but I WON! And of course, it was the only year my parents weren’t there. And they had already bought a turkey.

But it still felt awesome.

at this point, its not about winning a race, its about winning THE race.

win tomorrow, go to states.

it gets really hard to sleep when you know a day that you’ll probably remember for the rest of your life is in less than 24 hours.

Midnight Greenlake Race 19 months ago

This was certainly an epic Greenlake race for me. I had just put on new tires and a new back wheel onto my trek which I hadn’t ridden for a while. Immediately I could tell the huge difference as I headed down to a party in Wallingford. As it neared midnight about 7 of us left the party for the race at Greenlake.

At the race I could tell that it would be slightly more competitive than last month’s race of 3 contenders. We had the winner of last year’s Race of Champions and a semi-pro biker known for being an excellent sprinter. We started off at an already faster pace than the previous three months (possibly combined).

As we made our way around the lake, there was a final pack of maybe 6 or so racers. I was 4th just behind the sprinter guy. I knew that he would probably make a sprint past those two guys. He made his move just before the final curves and I drafted off him ahead of the two. But I had some extra inertia and was able to accelerate past him just before the final curve. I was cruising very fast and could tell that I was going to win it. I shook my fist in the air as I rode past the finish line at probably 25mph or so.

But then, as I brought my hand back down, I made contact with a guy on my left and went down HARD. Me and my bike skidded for a good 20 feet on the pavement after stopping in some gravel. I got up and started checking to see if everything was still working. I had road rashed my entire left side and my shoulder couldn’t really do the full range of motion. I started putting on the bandages and wiping off the wounds for a good ten minutes or so. The rash was so bad that I didn’t have enough bandages to cover up everything.

But I had just won and wasn’t about to let this crash mess with my evening. So after the race I put my track jacket back on, took my winnings with me and headed back to the party and danced the night away!

The next day I went to the ER and they concluded that it was just a bunch of bruises with no broken bones. So after all that I’m on the disabled list for biking for another week or so. And as I type this my shoulder is telling me that I should probably ice it.

My running class had a “race” at the end of the term, which I won, but I don’t think I should count that…

every year in primary school I’d always suck at sports day. I hated it but in the last year I was determined to get something out of it. I was against all the kids who bullied me and I came first it felt great standing on the first place podium with everyone cheering at your name ^^ tehe
