Find and attend a second pilates class in the week to progress from intermediate to advanced

I could motivate myself to do Pilates daily.

Pilates is the ONLY “work out” class I have ever liked! Yoga is too, urm, yoga-y for me. And step aerobics and kick boxing are just not my thing.

I alternate pilates and running, both of which keep me out of a gym (thankfully!). Pilates is wonderful strength training that really uses yourself to strengthen and lengthen your muscles instead of hard weights.

I loooove the focus on your core and balance.

Also, pilates really helped a back/shoulder/neck problem I’ve had for years. It is absolutely wonderful to not be in pain anymore!

I do highly recommend going to a class though. If you try to do it yourself from a video, you will more than likely be doing it wrong. I tried that and it was impossible to do know how it should be done without going to a proper instructor.

It’s hard but so good for you. A choreographer I’m working for is a pilates instructor so a lot of the dancers are getting privates with her for free, so that’s nice. My first class was last week with the springs and pulleys machine.

... in a heated room, moreover! i did enjoy it and i think it’s a great workout. but i feel after all these years of having done sport, i shouldn’t have to pay to do this sort of exercise. i should know how it’s done and the discipline is up to me.

Pilates is great for getting toned and a real goos ab workout!

You must try it! 4 years ago

I suffered a serious back and nerve injuiry a few years back. My rehab included physio, massage and piilates to strengthen my core. It was the best fitness decision I have ever made. My doctor remarked that he had never seen anyone recover from such a serious case of sciatica and multiple disc herniation which had been going on for 10 years.

My advide is to do as many one-on-one sessions as you can afford to really hammer down a solid routine with proper posture and then attend group classes which are less expensive.

I guess I need to get a video or something. I don’t know anything about pilates, but I’d like to be healthier and more in-tune with my body.
