well the Z is now officially on hold again. i’ve pulled the motor and half the suspension, but it needs a new place to live. well, and a motor, but that’s the easy part.
How to get a fast car
How I did it: I realized the cars I already have are as fast as is practical for driving on the street. Any faster introduces new risks that a car cannot accommodate well, and if you're going to increase risk, why not just move to a motorcycle?
Lessons & tips: Don't bother. If you can break the magical 1:10 hp:lbs ratio, or get close to it, you have plenty car for the road. Anything faster, and you need to get on a serious diet. Like 5:1 or 3:1. And there's really only one way to do that.

I’m not sure how fast is fast enough. The motorcycles sure are fast, and maybe the Z will be fast enough when I’m done with it (600hp, 2200lbs). Truth be told, I don’t really know what I want when I say I want a fast car. The STI is fast enough to get us plenty killed. The motorcycles are fast enough to get us plenty killed and reduced to aerosol on a jersey wall.
What exactly is a fast car, anyways? An Evo and a Murcielago can hang on a track, Clarkson has shown us that. Do we want the Murcielago because it is fast, or because it is pretty? Do we want the Evo because it is cheap, because it is fast, or it has that “purpose-driven, good looks not a priority” kind of stoic ugliness? (yes, the STI has the same thing)
I really have no idea where this aim is taking me. Fast probably isn’t the answer.
we already have an STI, which isn’t exactly slow, but I think I want a 2004 Cadillac CTS-V, a 2001-2003 C5 (maybe Z06), or a C6 (Z06’s are affordable if you van afford the $25,000 mark-up).
We could also buy an older, like 2001 subaru, and make it a beast. Maybe we could do it with a Lancer too.
Thing is, we need another car, and the STIs is Sandy’s.
even the original RT/10 vipers are coming down below 35…
