Serenity 3 months ago

My oldest daughter bought 2 Serenity gns last week. The first one – which was a hard cover – was mediocre at best. It was supposed to fill in the storyline somewhat between the end of the series and the movie that was made. The other gn was much better. When I remember what the titles were for these, I’ll post them.

have got Tank Girl vol 1 & THe Gifting
also the Kurt Cobain graphic novel

I will try & get some R Crumb, more Daniel Clowes & underground comix.

i don’t really know about any Japanese comic artists, but i like Miyazaki/Ghibli movies a lot, & Ghost In The Shell, Akira…

my graphic novel collection;

City OF Glass- Paul Auster/David Mazzuchelli
Watchmen- Alan Moore/Dave Gibbons
Batman, The Killing Joke- Alan Moore/Brian Bolland
V For Vendetta- Alan Moore/David Lloyd
Ghost World- Daniel Clowes

I’m really into Alan Moore & Underground Comix Artists- especially Robert Crumb. Haven’t found any decent collections of Crumb yet but i love his work. Have bought the documentary ‘Crumb’ by Terry Zwigoff, and the film adaptation of Ghost World, also directed by Zwigoff.

I’m a film maker but i also write & illustrate my own comix- i’ll put some of my work online when i can find the time

I found a bunch that I very much enjoyed

Fun House

A bunch of stuff I found by Marjane Satrapi including Persepolis which they made a movie of. Read the graphic novel & let your imagination do the animation.

League of Extraordinary Gentlemen: Black Dossier 10 months ago

It’s ok so far. I like the story itself, a bit, but there seems to be these things spread through that are supposed to be funny little literary in-jokes (just like what you’d expect for LoEG), but it’s like they’re scraping the bottom of the barrel or something. It’s actually pornographic in some spots, which was really contrived. Some of the stories inserted into the main thing are pretty cool. All in all, I’m pretty disappointed.

hmm not my first priority right now 1 year ago

cleaning up, making room for other goals…

Thank you Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh! 2 years ago

In the few short weeks that I’ve been using the library, I’ve already picked up and read 6 graphic novels that I’ve either 1) been wanting to read, or 2) am familiar with the artist. The main branch of the Pgh library has a huge graphic novel collection and I’ve been picking a couple up each time I go there. Here’s what I’ve read so far (minus Blankets which I read a while back).

I swear, reading L&R is like having some good friends over, getting pleasantly drunk with them, and wishing they never had to leave.

Unfulfilling 2 years ago

I read “My New York Diary” by Julie Doucet over the last week. It was cool, in a Raw kind of way; but it just wasn’t what I was looking for. I wish I had Black Hole, but it would cost a fortune for me right now.
