moonlit_reveriesBottles of Grey

This is the poem I painted. (I still need some finishing touches on the painting) but here’s the idea. And the poem it’s self is very personal to me, I’ll write another entry about what it means to me later.

A bottle of storm clouds brewing anxiously
Layers of gray concealed within
Circulating, forever in secret
Sealed shut with a cork
And painted with soft pastel smiles
Covering your glassy transparency
As a placid calmness drifts over you
No one sees within or even cares to
With one glance, they pass by
Never taking a second look

My eyes penetrate through all the labels
And every colored mask
Until every layer falls away
And raw pain emerges

Now transparent, I look within your tear-glazed glass
First as a stranger passing by
But finally reaching the other side
As I tread through waves of gray

Filled with swirling pools of concentrated pain
Waiting placidly, consuming you inside
I can feel it burning inside of you
As I listen closely, I hear a voice lost in turbulence
Drowning in liquid sorrow
Crying for a rescuer

In pure openness, I embrace you
Yearning to someday open the bottle
And watch the gray trickle down the drain

Until then, I carry you under the wings of my heart,
My arms always open 4 years ago

moonlit_reveriesObjectives

For this goal, I will consider it done when I do one painting. Because the skill I’d like to work on is turning poetry into an image and if this goes well, I’ll probably try it again for other poems on my own and turning one poem into a picture would start a spark.

I also want to capture the emotion in my painting, not just the subject. Partly, this is to develop my artistic skills, but that’s not the main purpose, which is more to have fun and discover how I can use color to paint emotion. 4 years ago

moonlit_reveriesEmotions ran dry

It bothers me that I haven’t written poetry in a few months. I think it’s something deeper than I’m bouncing back between extremes with that. (January through May were filled with poetry and I almost wrote too much because I procrastinated from my daily life and became engulfed in the world of poetry. But at that time I had to because the emotion was so intense and there were so many things I wanted to capture). But now my emotional pallet seems so bleak. I don’t know if I’m getting the “been there done that syndrome” or that I just don’t feel things as intensely as I used to, or that I’m out of touch with my emotions. The last thing I mentioned is a little scary to me, and even the 2nd one is. Maybe it’s a phase? 4 years ago

moonlit_reveriesSo many possibilities!

I’m reading through some of my old poems and I can see nearly all of them as beautiful visual works of art. I’m actually having trouble deciding on which one to turn into visual art first.

I’ve been also considering an abstract watercolor piece for this poem:

and this one too.

I’m already to think very visually and so it makes it hard to just decide on a piece because they all look so intriguing. I guess once I get started and decide on a poem, my ability to think visually will be more of an asset than a source of indecisiveness.

Here are some other options I’ve been considering:

http://allpoetry.com/poem/2721960
http://allpoetry.com/poem/2684140
http://allpoetry.com/poem/2672492

and so on and so on. Maybe part of the reason so many of these will work as paintings is that I try to ‘paint’ with my words when I’m writing these so that’s why so many of them are easy for me to imagine visually. 4 years ago

moonlit_reveriesNeed for art

I really would like to do more art again. Painting was so soothing for me and I was able to express all these neat ideas in my imagination. I currently express myself through words (poetry) and music, but art captures a different side of this and I also want to explore an intermodal approach to art so exploring this interconnection between poetry and visual art should be cool.

I just need to find my painting supplies and get started. 4 years ago
