fried egg sandwich, like my Dad used to occasionally make late at night. And one time the toaster didn’t pop up or turn off but set the toast on fire. And then the curtains. And when we came down in the morning and saw the scorching we found the curtains and toaster on the back porch, smashed. He’d carried the flaming machine out by the tail and the curtains by the rod and then stomped it all out.
He was gracious about the episode and laughed, then bought a new toaster and curtains. 2 hours ago

Two slices cold pizza, Mama’s Pizza, from down the street, the last of what Ms. R and I shared, for lunch. It doesn’t help with the doldrums, but the doldrums are lesser doldrums when the belly is filled.
I’ve got Mr. B and Mr. C in and around today, and Ms. R very near to heart, and the four legged man in the brown coat is snoozing on the sofa. I’m glad for it. Very glad. 22 hours ago

Supper in New York of hors d’ouvers like bacon wrapped dates and stuffed mushroom caps and smoked salmon, and risotto balls and lobster salad spoons and, well. YOWZA! followed by good salad and bread, sea bass with pumkin sauce and steak tournado, asparagus and potatoes Anna and dessert of great cake and chocolate covered Madeline and fresh fruit. Best meal in a long long long time.
Breakfast of coffee, shared spinach and mushroom and sausage omelet, salad and whole grain toast.
Meat loaf platter from a truck stop diner and they should be ashamed of what they serve, every ounce. And they should put paper towels in the restroom and scrub the toilets and sinks instead o just opening another air freshener thingy. Appalling, all in all, appalling.

graduation, and father’s day dinner of German chocolate cake and chocolate cake, both, because why should it have to be one or the other. She made them. From scratch. And the reviews were not only compelling and magnificent, they were of great love all around. After that, quick stir-fried snow peas in spicy sesame oil, a small hamburger through the garden, and a pulled pork sandwich. Made by me, she the sauce. It is the base pork for the Staggering Rat sandwich to come. After NYC. Next, marked consumption, then more! 5 days ago

pie. Not real baking. The kind of baking where ya open a can of pie filling and then unroll a couple of thawed pie crusts into the beautiful pie tray Ms. R bought. (It’s bright green and ceramic and perfect.) Then you ease the bottom crust in, dump the can, ease the top crust on and ventilate by pricking with a fork. So I made graffiti: my initials plus her initials, took a pci and sent it to her so she knows I’m think of her, 7:20, not real baking.
And when the pie was out I made a spinach salad and hamburger. Finished with a slice of pie topped with ice cream. I am fueled and rarin’ ta go! 1 week ago

luncheon. Congrats Mr. B! A half pond burger with bacon, cheese, BBQ sauce and fries stuck in. A side of fries and cole slaw too. I’d worked up a real appetite, with her, before Grilling but I didn’t finish the fries but the Graduate did! Even after his! And then, like run-on sentences I’m writing for her, hear, I ran back to find her again. And then again and again.
And today I woke of her and am now making a small pot of mac and cheese comfort food. That’s brunch and supper perhaps, with a garden salad. 1 week ago

the Epic Sunshine Burritorium: wee chicken cubes sauteed with onion, seasoned with salt, pepper and cumin at the end; refried beans, simmered for two days in a crock pot with red chile powder, a bit of salt and a blush of garlic and onion powder; chopped baby romaine and cilantro, from the garden (I’m thinning the lettuce plants to get the really BIG romaine next); chopped roasted green chile, shredded cheddar, sharp.
Lay cheese, beans green chile on flour tortilla the size of Albuquerque, nuke for 1:15. Add chicken and lettuce. Fold like an envelope then roll tight. If done right it will feed a family of Rat and Epic for an evening and there will be great love about and fireflies and hummingbirds both sing and whistle. The moon will blush to see us and all is perfect. 2 weeks ago

Supper of panko-covered tenderized beef steak. What kind? I dunno. But it cooked fast and hit muh beef spot which hasn’t been hit in a long time. Added a large salad of baby romaine and spinach (from the garden! And no bugs!) and warmed up french fries from the fish supper I didn’t get to finish on muh birthday. A good honest square meal, one I woulda served Ms R if she were hongry, and I liked it. 2 weeks ago

This is like taking a jalapeno shower from the inside out!
I found a discount bag of “Better Made Special” (since 1930) potato chips. I bought it because it said “Red HOT!” which I read to be, in my life, mediocre for I am a man of hot and often disappointed by wings and chips and other things said to be hot but in my world are warm spring day.
I had a big handful, one at a time. I have to stop now. I really do. They are HOT!
But you know what? I’ll be back into them for breakfast, just after I Sunday Up with the love of my life. 2 weeks ago
