Ed Wynn deciding to lose 35more pounds
I like the goal.. it gets cheers… but I am there.
helps when you are a grade 8 teacher too.

How I did it: I stopped thinking so much and caring so much about what was "socially acceptable" and just went wiht whatever I felt like doing. The more whimsical and quirky the better! And I wasn't afraid of the consequences. The worst that could happen? A few stares, rejection. But the satisfaction I got from just doing the thing made myself happy, and built up confidence and fearlessness that just makes my life so much better.
Lessons & tips: Make a list of things you'd like to do, things out of movies, find inspirations from blogs, whatever you'd like. Then jut go out and do them, forget about what other people might think! It'll make you much happier. And people love the unexpected.

... on a whim. To be extra sure, do it every couple of years.
this weekend i sat in a diner/cafe and doodled on my placemat. i was so absorbed in the process that i didn’t see my waitress arrive with the food, and she giggled at me. not so much a “ha ha, you weirdo” giggle, but more of an “aww, that’s really cute” giggle. even though the doodles were caricatures of my friends eating supermongous hotdogs and smoking cigarettes. this counts.
oh, to be spontaneous and silly and care-free, and to say interesting things at the right moments, and dress in an interesting way, and have random introspective moments and carry a journal to record them! to have relevant quotes by obscure figures of history on the tip of my tongue to disperse, and a purse full of hard candy to give to children i see while waiting in lines at the supermarket… to collect and give greeting cards for no good reason, and to wrap small presents elaborately with colored crepe paper and curly ribbons.
these are things that i wish i did, but don’t… yet
