Bernard Stonehouse. Cool illustrations but a bit tedious to read out loud
37. WeatherSeymour Simon same as above
38. Who Gets the Sun Out of BedNancy White Carlstrom Uninspired.
39. Rattlesnake DanceJim Arnosky Yawn
40. The Up and Down BookMary Blair. Good for learning to read. Both kids could read along with me, guessing some words from the pictures.
Holly Keller. Not bad. A neurotic rabbit comforts a sad rabbit.
34. Two Shoes, Blue Shoes, New ShoesSally FitzGibbon I think this book was written by someone with a shoe fetish
35. Rules of the WildBridget Levin Fun idea that you could do things as an animal that you can’t do as a human. But it lacked any sense of whimsy or silliness. Should have made the kids giggle but it fell short.
Mark Teague. About a kid who doesn’t clean his room and the pigs move in and wreck his stuff. So he cleans.
31. Mouse in the House
A messy family moves into a messy house. They go to great lengths to solve their problem but the solutions just generate bigger problems until things get completely disfunctional and the family member who yells moves out and everyone is happy to live with vermin.
32. The Three Sillies
Someone overanalyzes the future and gets all worked up until her suitor calls her silly (my son DID NOT think her silly). Then he goes on a quest to find sillier people and returns to her. Then he gets hit on the head with a mallet and starts drinking with a head injury, he gets drunk and is declared the silliest of all.
Ok, I would have thought this was over son’s head. I certainly have to spend a lot of time explaining what the book is saying. But it is pretty cool that he is enthusiastic to learn more about buddhism.
28. Who Likes the WindEtta Kaner
I highly recommend this. It has wonderful illustrations and asks questions like “why the wind blows” and gives explanations based on science that my 3 year old can understand.
29. No Monsters HereSharon Jennings
Yawn.
Sigh. We have got to get to the library! I couldn’t go saturday because of the whole freezer deal. Then yesterday I called and got the recording of their hours, got the kids all ready, rushed over there and restructured the whole day to get there and CLOSED! Now you would think that people who work in a library would be smart. But apparently not the person who posts the hours of operation and says it will be OPEN when in fact it is not! And apparently not the manager who determined that “Closed for Stat holidays” means to keep the door locked for 2 days when the holiday is in fact only 1 day long. BAH!
I swear our local library has a thing against working mothers. The kids cried all the way home.
