Record a solo album

so i heard back from BE, who has invited me to call him with any questions and for further discussion about setting myself up to record. i was so excited to get his response!

then i was talking to Y about it, and he really took the wind out of my sails. partially it was because setting myself up to record will involve spending some money on a computer program and possibly also other equipment. he was saying i should only buy stuff if i’m really going to do it and if i’m really really sure and if i really have the time right now etc. etc. etc.

yeah, now i feel all crappy about it.

i don’t know when i’ll ever finally record an album.

i just e-mailed BE (wow, what great initials), who records music all the time on his own computer, and asked him how he does it and what tools are needed.

i finally updated my website, after about oh, a year. not that there’s any news to tell now. i’ve got no solo gigs scheduled. but still. good to just DO IT and realize that it’s not as big of a pain in the ass as i make it out to be.

challenge myself to do this over winter break. martin luther king day weekend.

i just played a gig last night… it was a wondrous occasion and great lineup. i was only included in the lineup as a fluke, since one of the acts couldn’t make it and asked me if i could play in her spot. but there was a girl there who signed up on my mailing list and said something to the effect that she really liked my music. she asked me, “do you have stuff i can buy?” and i had to say no. i don’t have an album right now. she gasped with horror and surprise and she said well you should get on that. or you should make one soon, or something. and i think she’s right.

also, my old poetry professor misread my e-mail about the show, which was a cd release party for another band, and thought that i was putting out a new cd. he responded all excitedly about it. then responded again a bit disappointed after he realized he had misread the message.

so yeah… there will actually be people who will want a cd of mine if i make one. i must not forget that. come on, momentum. practice. practice. practice. courage. do it do it do it.

The record is just about done. I’ve got a few overdubs and solos to redo but that’s it.

I’m waiting on the music video which I think is a crucial component to the whole release.

So hopefully all of this will come together soon!

All the vocals are tracked. Yes! I still have a few guitar and keyboard overdubs to do. It feels good to be close to finishing.

I’m feeling it. Got 4 more songs to do vocals on. I can totally do that by Sunday. What a sweet relief it will be. Still have to re-track a few guitars and keys but shouldn’t be too hard.

Ok I have 6 more songs to do. I’ve been banging it out pretty good. All I can say is Logic Pro 8 makes is soooo easy to comp vocals. It completely streamlines the vocal recording process.

6 songs is a lot to do by Sunday but I think I can do it.
