We have moved to our new farm, now, several years (and then months to actually get thru the process) in the making!
We moved on Friday and are still getting settled. The barn is quiet without the alps yet, but they will be here in the spring, so it won’t be too long. We have to work on the pastures before then anyhow.
It will be a while before we are operational, but our new farm has so far provided us with a good crop of blackberries, beans, and the tomatoes are plentiful and green so we’ll have those soon. We have two wild turkey families that are coming to visit frequently, and I found the most beautiful feather in the woods today, where I was fortunate enough to be walking with my parents who were able to see our place this weekend. This is no small feat since they are from away (as any good Mainer would put it, though, I am not in Maine).
It is going to be so great here! We are finally at the point where we can look around and be excited to be settling in.
A few odds and ends left to take care of, but we are here, and ready to engage in our land stewardship! My parents even gave me a pitchfork as a farm-warming gift! :)

Well, we already live in the country, but we have just purchased what will be our small farm. We could have more acreage (always) but we love the home, location, land, barn etc. We are very excited and have already thought about what else we’d like to have in addition to our ‘pacs… chickens, what kind of produce, etc. When we are moved in, I will be crossing this one off the list. Of course, once we have the place, what we want to do with it will be a never ending list!

Aaron going to be apple picking.
Well, not super soon, but by August 1st we will be the owners of a small farm, 4 acres with a barn. I know it’s small, but it’s going to be ours. :)

We put an offer on a house w/ a barn… assuming it’s accepted we will be there sooner rather than later.

Living in the country far away from all the traffic yet only 15 minutes away from big towns. It’s not really a farm but its in the country where people take the time to talk to each other and kids wave when they cross the street. No traffic, no hurry, no nonsense. I love it!

We’ve been giving this one a lot of thought lately. We do live in a rural ‘farm’ community. Of course it’s now the burbs, but it has never lost its farm roots, as it never was a mill town. Nice place to live, but can we afford to farm here?

Nothing sticking out as the one just yet. I think we’ve got alot to do on our place in order to make it marketable. It’s not that it’s not marketable as it is, it’s just got alot of potential, and would be less of a fixer-upper if we did a few more things to make it look nice:
Paint (this is a no brainer)
floors
maybe finish the attic

Has a great ring to it eh? Well, a friend of T’s came by this weekend. He brought a large box of it for us. I guess it’s one of those benefits. It had leeks, some sort of beet / turnip, squashes, onions, tomatoes, peppers, sweet potatoes… Awsome I tell you, awsome. We had a great salad last night, with the beets, and a variety of other veggies… we talked veggies, and farming. It was very interesting. I’m considering joining a coop to get consistant variety of produce when it’s in season. Sounds interesting… maybe someday we can have an organic farm of our own.

Were getting closer and closer to this. T is on the verge of quitting her job, then I’d assume we’ll start planning on selling the house, and find a place in the sticks to live. wow… Things happen so fast.
