This is self-explanatory… I don’t want to have all of humanity’s progress to be prematurely lost because the planet dies on us, cause that would suck. Also, how can I be wasteful, when people live in poverty?
I am going to:
turn off the lights
turn off the water when I don’t need it running (showers and brushing teeth)
Buy as local as possible
recycle EVERYTHING
drive less/ ride my bike/walk more
buy products with minimal packaging
use low-flow plumbing fixtures
unplug appliances that are turned off

I want to slow things down, especially with regards to gasoline and home heating fuel consumption.

I want to get this
There is one side of our house that gets a lot of sun in the afternoon and it really heats things up. Hopefully this will help with that.

I must confess that I am doing a terrible job with this goal. As I write, I realize that I left both lights on in my room.
I started out right with this goal, but I slowly have lessened my restrictions. I must be steadfast!

In theory, I try to take good care of the environment. But I often forget to do certain things. So here are my goals within this goal.
1. NO more showers lasting longer than 5 min.
2. Turn off the lights when they aren’t in use.
3. Turn off the water heater at night.
4. Turn down the stove in my room at night.
5. Carpool more. Stop driving too fast.
6. Unplug things I’m not using at the moment, like my toaster, CD player, extra lights, etc.

We changed all our light bulbs to fluorescent and started hanging our laundry on a clothesline. Our power bill is down to about $15 a month for a 3-bedroom house. One day, probably far in the future, we’d like to install solar panels and be selling energy back to the power company.

Just bought more energy saver bulbs for the kitchen. extra careful not to break them and die from mercury poisoning. I also drafted a letter to the housemates upstairs on ways to conserve water, electric and oil. They seem on board, so hopefully they all follow through.
