Ive wanted to do this forever.
This is my Passion, and the one thing im good at.
I just need to get everything in order to do it.
youranything is unusally hard to hold on to.
i had a great job and i was lucky to be where i was. i was at a point in my life that i thought i could do better and i deserved better. i quit my job and decided that cosmetology school was for me. i learned a good bit and it was fun…but not the kind of job that i should be doing. i enjoyed it but quit after a couple months to ask for my job back. i guess it takes leaving to realize how good you had it. i guess you could say i needed that. now i appreciate my job and i don’t ever wonder if there is something else that i should be doing.

It continues to be a lot of fun although I often find myself not being part of the “in” group. I guess as a 50 year old tattooed ukulele playing dreadie wannabe I should get used to not blending in. I have no doubt that I’ll finish the course and pass the state boards, so I consider this goal complete.

School began on April 28th. One of the students in my class of nine “estees” likens the experience to being in a girls summer camp. First day, we played with the makeup. Second day, we enjoyed facials from the more advanced class. Mostly, our class time is a general orientation and talking about the “soft (people) skills” for the first two weeks, then we’ll get our kits. Oh boy!

I’m excited to start school at Avenue Five. It’s Austin’s newest cosmetology school and the vibe is fresh.

I was not impressed with the school in Houston. Just goes to show how important visiting the school can be. The best program for esthetics that I’ve seen online is offered at The Skin Science Institute in Salt Lake City. Salt Lake City? Houston? Yikes! I think I’ll stay here in Austin, an esthetics program is only 20 weeks and most of the serious learning is done on the job.

I’ve visited most of the cosmetology schools in Austin and cannot say that I am pleased. Most treat esthetics like a red-headed stepchild. So, on Tuesday, I am going to visit The Institute of Cosmetology and Esthetics in Houston. This school offers a comprehensive program that includes certification by CIDESCO (Comit International D’Esthtique Et De Cosmtologie), which is recognized around the world as the highest credential in the field.
It’s my passion.
I love giving people a new outlook on themselves.
I want to have my own business someday, perhaps a spa.
Two more years and I can enroll!
