I think I might puke: there’s going to be an advanced showing of Serenity in Portland on June 23rd. At which time I will be on vacation in Washington DC, with people who couldn’t care less. WHY, GOD, WHY. 7 years ago

I finally finished watching it all yesterday, and now I have gotten my mother hooked! I really, really feel for the people who started watching it back when it aired, in 2002, because I can’t imagine liking it this much and having to go three whole years before I got any kind of resolution. As it is, September seems eeeeons away. I’ve heard tell that if the Serenity movie does well at the box office, it might be made into a trilogy.

In my wet dream fantasies, I’m hoping that it will be picked up for a TV network again or something, because holy crap, I like these characters. I like the music. I can take or leave some of the plot points, but I really love the show’s concept of our world in 500 years, and how China has become enough of a superpower that everyone can speak Mandarin to a certain degree, and the whole idea of a cultural hodge-podge on various planets. It’s so . . . fascinating!

I can’t get over how good this show is! I can see why it was cancelled, since it’s very much a western, and I’m sure that people who would normally like westerns would be scared away by spaceships (and people who are bigs fans of Deep Space 9 and Star Trek would be bored by the shots of horses frolicking around on remote settler planets), but for someone who can see past both genres, it’s truly awesome. Of course, I’m really sad there’s not a lot more episodes (why was Buffy around for like seven years, and this was around one season?), but I am psyched for the movie… 7 years ago
