cross-reference these two goals. Hmmm, is there a theme here?

a step towards this goal.

Unfortunately, this is a habit I developed as one of my survival mechanisms growing up. Time to lose it.

This is something I had to learn. 2 years ago

I always felt that accepting personal responsibility was a sign of integrity and maturity. Unfortunately, there are many, many people who are more than willing to give you their portion of personal responsibility as well and bounce away with the appearance of clean hands. Or distract from their responsibility by turning the situation around on you so that your attention is diverted into defending yourself.

Over the past year or two I have gotten much better at gracefully accepting only my personal responsibility and rejecting added accountability that someone else tries to put on my shoulders. I am learning to do so without getting into accusations and arguments. I like it! And I want to remember to do it even if I’m taken off guard.
