It's finished, and I love it. 22 months ago

Since last week, I have spent approximately an hour a day at the taylor’s, trying on, having a glass of cola and trying to have a conversation with him without much success. But in the end, we’ve managed to produce my dream dress. I am so chuffed.
I’ll post pictures from the wedding once we have some nice ones.

Houston, we have a dress. 22 months ago

Well, kind of. We had a dress. When I went to pick it up last night, it was all finished. I was so happy I didn’t care how it looked.
When I donned it at home, bf was honest. He said it looked like a pregnancy dress, and he was right. The fabric that falls in a lovely shape on the original dress is much thinner than the fabric I chose, so the copy looks like I am wearing a bell. Fits for a wedding, get it wedding – bell?
So I took it back and have the ruffle (is that how you call it?) taken out. Tonight, I know if I have a dress or not.
I took off Wednesday afternoon and Thursday, so in worst case, I still have time to buy something different. Bf has had enough of the whole wedding already.

Today, I will take a break. 22 months ago

Last night, I went to another fitting and my dress is really coming together, finally!
We are shortening it to just above the knees, andd the taylor also pinned on an arm, which will reach down to my elbow.
We decided it would be best if his wife rang me to set the final dates because it is easier to talk with her. So tonight, I won’t go fitting. Tomorrow again at 4 o’clock, so she is there, too and we can discuss final details. I am sure it will be ready sunday or monday. Oh boy.

Progress!!! 22 months ago

The taylor had a huge dress for me to try on, about 4cm too big, everywhere, and open on the back to sew in the zipper.
He pinned it all down on me wearing it, to size.
I am so relieved. It will look pretty when it’d finished though due to the empire style and the stiff fabric, it might be mistaken for a pregnany dress, but I have decided to stop worrying what the world thinks and will just be fabulous.
I also took a piece of the leftover fabric with me so I can go hunting for matching accessories and a pair of black knee high boots.
At the end of the fitting, he started to haggle with me about the deadline, suggesting next week Wednesday! His non-existing Dutch is really a problem because I don’t speak Turkish… So I grabbed a sheet of paper and a pen and drew him a calendar for the next 10 days showing him the corner dates. I told him that I wanted it finished by Saturday, Sunday latest. It’s Wednesday now. I will get another fitting tomorrow. It seems as if we are getting somewhere.

Still no sign of my dress. 22 months ago

I went again last night, only to find the taylor’s wife explaining to me that he’d had a back problem and that that’s the cause for there still not being a shred to try on.
At that point, I explained to her how unhappy I was with the whole situation. The wedding is next week, I haven’t bought any shoes to go with any outfit, it causes me immense stress, not to mention my loss of confidence in their business as I have been promised a dress to fit 3 times (Saturday, Monday and Tuesday). They never call a phonenumber where they can reach me (they have all, my house, my mobile and my office) and the two week delay that was caused by your man being too “embarrassed” to tell me he’d made a mistake is now really backfiring on us all.
I made a point in saying that if there’s no dress TONIGHT, the whole deal is off. It’s costing me too much energy.

Yet another day's wait!!! 22 months ago

That darned taylor again postponed the fitting until tomorrow.
If there is no dress for me to try tomorrow at 18:00h, I will cancel the order, and demand the money back I have spent on the fabrics. This has cost me already too many nerves, and considering the guy’s attitude, not telling me that he had messed it up and therefore losing 2 weeks (!), this is the last job I’ll ever give him, no matter how it turns out. Even if it turns out brilliantly, his work is not worth the trouble I had to go through.
I should have been warned when my neighbour told me she wasn’t impressed with his work, but I’m too good to people.

Saturday's dress fitting... 22 months ago

...has been postponed until tomorrow. The taylor hadn’t finished what he wanted me to try on and when he saw me, he told me he had called “this number”, pointing at my office number on a saturday. If I was a suspicious person, I’d say he is full of BS, but since I’m not, he’ll get the last benefit of the doubt. Tomorrow night I will know if I have to go on a stressy dress hunt or if it’s just shoes and accessories…

Right now... 22 months ago

...I am suffering pre-dress-fitting axiety.
What if it’s all phucked up again?
What if I don’t like it after all?
What if it’s perfect, but bf hates it?
What if I love it, but can’t find shoes to wear with it?

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaargh!

I forgot to mention 22 months ago

...that I also went to a jeweller’s store to find out if my light blue/white earring can be repaired. It can’t. :o(
The metal pin which would go through my lobe broke off and putting it back on would be too hot for the earring’s frontal stone/fake stone stuff and would melt it, too. So I also need to find matching jewellery. My bank account is starting to feel the strain. Well I really don’t care. I have only one sister and I wanna look good at her wedding. There will be so immensely many relatives there who I haven’t seen in like 10 years, and I don’t want to come across as a total fat troll.
