They are truly wonderful animals! extremely loyal, fun, exciting and always ready to party!
Good looking animals and they know it!
Might not be that good idea to have one in hot climates like i do. They get quite warm, especially here in south africa.

ditto to polyjester’s entry. They are a beautiful breed with an abundant supply of energy, comedy, and mischief.

I got my Husky (Tequila) from an animal rescue center (SPCA) about 4 years ago. He’s got one brown eye, one blue. They have a lovely nature and are great with kids, but…
Do not get a Husky as a guard dog, they’re useless for security
Do not get a Husky if you live in a house with a small yard/garden, they need lots of room to run.
They are also incredible escape artists, and will run for miles if they get out the gate, so be prepared to get in the car and drive to chase after them :)
(Visit http://www.siberianhusky.co.za for more information)
Good luck!

Already have one. Listen folks, choosing a dog breed must be taken seriously. You need to research your choice extensively and not fall into the ‘they’re cute’ trap. You need to ask yourselves what kind of guardian you will be to a dog. (Note I don’t use the word owner.)
Huskies are not meant for first time dog guardians. They are difficult to train. Very strong-willed. You have to be physically strong to just walk them. If you can’t handle 700 lbs of torque, not the dog for you. They will certainly need obedience training. And they need space and their excercise needs are above average. They are not velcro dogs-very independent. They are runners and have no homing instinct, so if they get away don’t expect they will return. You have to have a fenced area for them. They are working dogs so not the most suitable breed for pet duty. Not best suited for young children whom they can knock over with ease. They need to be challlenged and have something to do daily. They are not a particularly protective or loyal breed. They have the potential to be aggressive.(They are NOT descended from the wolf!) Not shy about eating their own. (Know one who ate the family cat after being it’s buddy for 11 years.) They are double-coated so not suitable to living in Florida. Their grooming needs vary, depending on the type of husky. (Americam vs Siberian) Be prepared to brush daily. They are big eaters. They need a lot of protein to maintain muscles mass. Be prepared for vet bills. So if you are short on cash, not the breed for you.
Please please read up before you make such an important decision. Again, ask yourself how much time and energy, and cash YOU are willing to put into being the best guardian you can be for a dog so that he become a good canine citizen…

yeah i remembered one of the animated movies “Balto” about a real life husky who saved the day but it wasn’t till i saw one at the petshop that i fell inlove with one. the puppy came to me like a lil sheep, full of enthusiasm and joy! i wanted to get one but my family is afraid that it might have some hidden genes from the wolf (since it looks like one) and might attack people. I really want one, but might have to wait as it is one of those big dogs with high maintainance, not in a way that i;ll mind. pls lemme know if anyone knows some facts on this. thnx

Huskies are adorable, loving and energetic dogs, although they are very hairy.
I recently got an 18 month old male who I would now not want to be without
