yield to manners and common sense

I saw this quote in…this month’s issue of Reader’s Digest!

I’m attempting to get every letter of the alphabet represented on my main list…so I had to think of something that starts with y.

I liked the word yield but wasn’t sure what I wanted to yield to…and then it just popped into my head.

I like to think that I’ve always had manners, but already I’ve been catching myself forgetting manners at work (like interrupting or teasing—when maybe it’s not appropriate).

Also common sense is something that I use pretty well in most areas of my life, except maybe when eating. For example, my kiwifruit went bad (yes, they eventually go bad, trust me, they look exactly the same as unripe—but they are kind of squashy to the touch). Anyway when the kiwifruit went bad and couldn’t it eat yesterday, I used that as an excuse to go to the vending machine and console myself with a whole bag of “Sweet and Salty Trail Mix” plus a cup of hot chocolate. (Limiting myself to one or the other would have been using common sense, but not consuming both.)
