I want to do more to help the environment. So far this is what I have going:
Travel by T
lowers greenhouse gas emissions, reduce air pollution,
improve health and save money!
*Vegan
eating meat, eggs, and dairy products contributes heavily to
global warming because raising animals for food produces many
more greenhouse gas emissions than growing plants. Switching to
a vegan diet does more to reduce global warming than switching
to a hybrid car! Raising animals for food also uses enormous
amounts of land, water, grain and fuel. Every year in the
United States alone, 80 percent of all agricultural land, half
of all water resources, 70 percent of all grain, and one-third
of all fossil fuels are used to raise animals for food.
Use Reusable Shopping Bags
Producing plastic bags uses a lot of natural resources, and
most end up as litter that fouls landscapes, clogs waterways,
and kills thousands of marine mammals that mistake the
ubiquitous bags for food. Worldwide, up to a trillion plastic
bags are used and discarded every year—more than a million per
minute.
*Recycle Plastic and Glass beverage containers

This morning I went to my school (it’s a saturday btw) @ 9:00 AM, and I helped beautify my school grounds. It wasnt so much as helping the environment, but we did pick up trash and plant some flowers (I even did some de-weeding)! It was fun cuz I hung out with the coolest people ever!! The weather was delicious.

For an assingment in Biology, we had to write a reacton paper on an article in the news (relted to science). Mine was about oil mining/processing in Canada an the effects it would have on the US economy and the environment. My reaction paper was about a page long, typed, and I wouldve gone on if I didn’t really have a limit. It felt good giving my educated opinion. From my Earth Week research earlier this year I was informed about the problems we have on this planet concerning its environmental health. When I went up to talk about it to the class though, I froze and said not even half of the stuff I wrote. If I want to bee an advocate for Earth, I have to be louder! I can’t be afraid to let people know what I think. I have to be brave.

I try to do my bit and look after the environment around me. I use energy saver light bulbs, recycle papers cans glass & card, never waste food, don’t own a car, and don’t throw things away unless they’re broken & worn out. I buy organic and local products as much as is reasonably possible. Now my garden’s getting sorted I plan on buying a water butt and maybe I’ll start a compost heap further down the line.

I joined the sierra club and have been in it for a year now, I avoid fast food with all of my willpower, and I haven’t used anything made of styrofoam for a long time now. I also bought a solar charger for my phone (it’s called a Solio for anyone interested) and I recycle everything that I can, even if it means carrying a plastic bottle with me for a few hours

For earth day 2008 (April 22) a friend and I organized activities that ran the whole week. We were able to get our local utility company to donate almost 100 compact florescent light bulbs (energy star bulbs. more efficient than the regular incandescent)to our school that we gave away during lunch to the winner of a game we made up. We asked our peers questions etc. We had a drawing/ poem contest foe Earth. We made a slide show that we showed to our classes. we worked hard to inform people about how they can help our dying planet. I truly believe that if we work together we can make a difference in this world. I want to become an environmental engineer so I can help.
