learn to play blues guitar

New task intro time! (slightly over 1 “one post a week” promise, but who’s counting? Just me then.)

I’ve owned some sort of guitar from around the age of 11. I learned a few chords, tried to a few songs I liked, but the trouble was…I was never any good. Although being a leftie is no longer such a great excuse (thanks a bunch, Jimi), the stubbiness of my fingers meant I just couldn’t cut it. So, many,many years after my first real six-string, it was becoming apparent that “Rock Star” was not going to make an entry onto the old CV.

..But I would love to play an instrument. I’m thinking, the Blues may at least give me a shot. “Just Three Chords and the Truth”, right? Easy to learn, hard to master, but I’m not really looking to master anything, just play a few things that sound….o.k.

I have a “How to play Blues” book purchased, so all I need is some bourbon and a huge family tragedy and I should be sorted.

I’d like to watch youtube video lessons….

I play the guitar I have a somewhat of a blues soundkinda like a Slash sort of sound to it but I want to get more of an Eric Clapton or SRV sound

I play guitar to a reasonable level, I have a friend who makes the blues seem so effortless, I want to be able to jam with friends, and play in a band. I found a good website, which perhaps might be usefull to you if you are doing this to, its: http://www.wholenote.com/tracks/blues.asp

I’ve been playing the guitar for 40 years. I’ve played every kind of music you could imagine. But blues guitar cannot be learned. You can only play at it. You can only pretend. You can only play from night to night and never hit the notes the same way twice. It is the hardest style of guitar to play. I’ve been playing the blues for about 35 of those 40 years and I honestly believe that blues guitar is the hardest of all music to play. Ever.
