train my cat not to scratch everything she sees

I have come to terms with the fact that our dear kitten Drusilla will do what she wants when she wants to do it. I just work on diverting her attention to something else instead. Not really anything else to do about it. :)

I put it up in my bedroom with the ropy underside up and sprinkled catnip on it. I haven’t seen my cat scratch on anything else since. He loves that doormat. It’s so thick and heavy that he can really dig his claws in and really pull on it.

He knows I don’t want him to do it. That’s why he stands halfway behind the couch (but not all the way, because he wants to keep an eye on me and check my reaction) and waits until I am asleep before he goes at it.

I am considering banishing him to the uncarpeted kitchen for the rest of the night the next time I awaken to the sound of my carpet being destroyed.
