How I did it: I went to the dentist. He asked me everything I hated about my teeth. I got my cavities filled, so it’s just a matter of getting started now. All the money seems overwhelming.
I used Invisalign from August 2007 through October 2007 (2.5 months total). My goal was to close a few small gaps in the front of my teeth before my wedding. I wanted a “perfect” photo ready smile for my special day. I used 5 trays total. The costs were: a $500 deposit, and then a balance of $2800 dollars, I think. Altogether, my initial analysis and trays cost a little more than $3000 dollars. It was TOTALLY worth it! Very little pain (just a little pain pinch from closing the gaps that lasts for a second) once you graduate “up” to a new tray every 2 weeks. When I was finished my dentist (who is board certified and a professor at Columbia University’s School of Dentistry) made me a retainer for $75 dollars to keep my perfect teeth straight. I did have to get 2 teeth bonded (very slightly) to close 2 very small side gaps that were not adjusted by Invisalign. If you have the opportunity to do this, and have minor corrections to make, this is DEFINITELY for you! I love to smile…and my husband is amazed at how pretty my “new” teeth are!
I just talked to an ortho and got rates on wire, porcelain, and invisalign. Truthfully, I can’t see myself cutting up all foods and not eating all the sticky crunchy chewy things I love. Is it would be irresponsible to spend all that extra money. I don’t even know if I can really afford it.
