I would like to run my own coffee shop. I dream of having a nice coffee shop, playing good blues and jazz music, smooth jazz, lounge, chill out, and bossa nova in a very cosmopolitan environment.
I have always liked used bookstores, and particularly ones where you can get a good cup of coffee. The downtown where I live really needs a bookstore. I think it would add to the town vitality, and a used bookstore is best in so many ways. I just don’t know how to get started. I’m think about contacting a business that does coffee shop franchises to see if I can combine their franchise with another business (the bookstore). Any ideas
this is going to happen. I am going to talk to my mother in law about financial backing. I can do this.

After trying Starbucks White Chocolate Mocha (mentioned in my latest post for my learn or try something new every week goal) I decided to see how well I could recreate the taste of at home.
While less frothy than Starbucks (and this issue is going to be tackled in the future with the use of adding a blender stage to the preparation since I am without pricey coffee making equipment at this stage of the game) and not possessing any espresso my concoction did satisfy the craving for a drink with White Chocolate taste and that good ol’ coffee flavor:
White Chocolate Coffee For The Espresso Machine-less
- 2 tablespoons of coffee grounds
- 2 cups milk
- two spoonfuls white chocolate morsels
- whipped cream
- a 1 cup coffee filter cup
- 2 coffee filters
- 1 tall coffee mug
- 1 spoon
Place the first coffee filter over the rim of the coffee mug carefully – you’ll have to bend the edges of the filter around the rim to keep it from sinking into the cup completely. Once you have it in place 1 spoonful of white chocolate morsels into the pouch inside the cup you’ve created. Be careful not to let the weight of these make the filter sink too much, put in just as many as you can without having it fall in. Place the coffee filter cup on top of this and place the second filter inside of it. Place the coffee grounds into that and set the whole contraption aside.
Boil the milk – I found using a small non-stick frying pan decreases the likelihood that you burn the milk. While it is heating, drop in the remaining white chocolate morsels and stir the thing like mad. The chocolate will mostly stick to the bottom of the non-stick pan (irony) and the spoon.
Once it reaches a sufficient temperature(close to boiling or boiling) remove from heat and carefully begin pouring the contents into the coffee filter cup over the coffee grounds. This will take a little time so be patient. Once you’ve poured all of the contents into it and everything has filtered through the cup filter and the filter below filled with now-melted white chocolate morsels, remove those.
Top with whipped cream and enjoy.

A half hour in the kitchen today which involved three coffee filters, a strainer, two glass Pyrex measuring cups, three different blends and brands of coffee and assorted chocolate mixes and syrups and milk yielded a delicious cup of Raspberry Chocolate Coffee topped with whipped cream. My only note on it is that there wasn’t enough Raspberry. Will have to work on that.
At this point, obviously, I’m working with pre-blended coffees but now that I’ve got a grinder I’ll be aiming at getting plain coffee beans and working my way up from there. There is a shopping trip in the works tomorrow to one of the local coffee bean meccas.

I’ve decided I might as well start learning what I can about it. I went out today and bought myself a coffee grinder and some of the Torani flavored syrups that are often used at cafes with the intent of doing some of my own experimenting with tastes as well as learning how to use them in tried and true coffee recipes.
I’m amazed at how many recipes there are for coffee online and tutorials for using espresso machines. It will be some time before I get my hands on one to use but I figure the more research and learning I can do beforehand can only be beneficial in the long run. :)
i am trying to gather and cultivate some tools that could help me with this someday. i think a large percentage of the books will come from my collection of books i no longer need or want. i am also working with some programs like excel and budgeting to help me with that part of it. more goals to come in this goalset….it’s my bigger dream in the grand scheme.
i’d like to do this soon. maybe tomorrow. but really maybe in two years. i guess like others, the only limitation would really be the money. luckily i’m going to win the lottery.
until then i’ll keep thinking of more ideas!
