I can’t do the solo thingy without a pick (and it’s kind of hard to grab a pick to do it and then toss it away during the rest), but I’m plodding ahead steadily otherwise!
It isn’t that hard. I’m using GuitarPro and slowing it down to 50% speed. I expect speed will build up on itself over time.

Boy, looks like the first verse sounds ok if I play it at snail’s pace. That’s as far as I’ve gotten. Hmmm. It will be weeks before I mark this one done.

I am half way done!!
Update
The rest is similar enough to the first half. I have committed most to memory, but I still have to practice before I know it by heart.

I wasn’t able to read tablature correctly until I used the powertab software which was recommended in a comment .. and I’ve gotten to where I can play a line :)

The “learn to play this song” are easy goals…and I feel like I am cheating a bit by doing them. Probably because I feel like a goal must require work and work cannot be fun. But I am over it. I should enjoy doing these…and they are good fillers.

go to www.powertabs.net and download the tabbing program off there. Then download the tab for your song. Using the software you can see exactly what you need to play and when because it plays the tab and follows it along on the screen. Good for those times where you have a tab, but have no idea how it fits in with the song.

I went looking for tabs on the web and found this neat set of handwritten notes and tutorials! http://www.highcountryguitar.com/tearsinheaven.htm
