arturian is in a really good place in life!!!

6 months mark 4 months ago

3 days ago was exactly 6 months since the accident. Lets see what changed, oh yea I CAN RUN. Not much, just about a minute or so before my legs get really tired, but I CAN RUN. I still have to concentrate alot not to limp while running, but i was able to do it. This accomplishment has made me very happy, and definitely gave me more motivation and energy to keep pushing myself even though sometimes it seems that progress goes backwards.

Sooo today is 5 months anniversary of my accident, wow time flies. I am already starting to forget the pain I went through and starting to think about next snowboarding season, pretty crazy, wasn’t sure if I’ll ever go back before; I guess time really does heal everything.

I still go to therapy 3 times a week even though now I mostly do the same exercises that I can do by myself in the gym. I can walk fine now, can run in place, but still can not run on the treadmill, tried a few times and almost fell down. Miss sports alot…and swimming (I go to the beach but just go get some tan, can’t enjoy the ocean yet).

I set August 31 as my official recovery date on all of my calendars and go to gym 3-4 times a week (besides therapy) to make sure I get to 100%. As of now I think I’ll be able to make it, working out legs so much even though is really painful shows INSANE results. I can see the difference every week.

P.S. I am finally able to hit it doggy style, lol. I just wanted to document this accomplishment because it was a big deal when I couldn’t.

Half way there 6 months ago

Had a horrible snowboarding accident on January 18, 2009. Had a knee surgery same day to connect my patellar tendon back (completely ruptured). What followed then was probably the worst experience of my life: a week in a hospital with getting Percocet or morphine every 4 hours (depending on level of pain), a months of laying in bed with only minor walking w/ crutches and in a brace, and almost 3 months of therapy and still going. Today is May 12, its been 3 months and 3 weeks since the surgery and I can walk with out crutches and very little limping.

Full recovery period is 6 to 12 months so still a long way to go, but I am thankful that I can finally leave my house for more then 10 minutes and can go back to work.

5 surgeries down, 1, or possibly 2, to go! Moral of the story: watch where you step, and don’t work someplace dangerous if you’re not 100% mentally alert! (60 hours into a workweek for the 6th week in a row tends to dull my mental acuity)

Well, it took some time but I’m finally back to the point where I feel I have the energy to get going again. I’ve been using my Neti Pot, to keep my sinuses clear and so far its working.

I was regreting the surgery at first, but it feels good to know I’ll be healthier from now on.

For anyone facing surgery or recovering, my thoughts are with you.

    Doing Good 13 months ago

Well, I’m finally back in California, and I’m doing a lot better as far as my recovery goes. I still feel some pain, but I’m trying to hold off on the pain medication because it makes me so tired and groggy I can’t get anything done. All in all, the surgery went well and I’m glad I had it done.

    Doing Better 13 months ago

I’m feeling better today – finally got out and about today. I’m still feeling tired from the pain and the medication, but its lessened considerably. I think I have to see this as time for me to rest and do some planning. I’m usually so busy working through my lists that I don’t take time to just sit and rest.

    Surgery Sucks 13 months ago

I just had surgery 6 days ago on my sinuses. I’m recovering a little slower than expected due to complications, but I’m feeling better. I’m torn right now between wanting to get things done, and wanting to lie in bed all day.

I am really looking forward to the day when I feel all better.

    Knee surgery 22 months ago

I’ve gone from a very active college student, to one who can’t do much. I have my second and hopefully final surgery on my knee and I am stoked to get this over with.
