Bill Almost three more weeks until the semester ends!
In middle school I played in the band. In high school I played by myself. I found that the band restricted much of the freedom that I wanted to experience when I played. I would usualy play be ear and I liked to play songs that I heard on the radio.
I would really like to get into playing jazz since that is the least restrictive form that you can play in. I look forward to playing the trombone again, but I have no money for it so this one will have to sit on the back burner just like my other financial dependent goals.

Just to see how much I remember, how much I’ve forgotten, and how much it will hurt.
I’m afraid of opening the case though; it’s probably a biohazard. Nine years.

...Christmas caroling with three friends and three trombones years ago.
It was fun for us—I don’t know about anyone else. Two of us didn’t play, so we were limited to Jingle Bells.

I joined the local community band at the beginning of November and today we played a Christmas concert at the mall. I have to say, although it is an amateur group, it was a lot of fun and I felt at home.
Then tonight I played on a couple of orchestra accompaniments for choral pieces in our church’s annual Christmas concert. I was given a horn part a half an hour before the orchestra was rehearsing, and so I hurried and wrote out the transposition before we rehearsed! (I never learned how to transpose on site very well- only had to do that in High School when the musical people couldn’t sing in the written key).
It has been encouraging to find that I can still play, even if it will take a lot of work to get all the way back, at least I am good enough to pass, and it feels so good to be playing again.
