JessI'm going solo
I have bought my plane ticket and booked my hotel for Oktoberfest 2010. My friends bailed out, so I’m going alone. If any other Americans are going, let me know and I’ll meet up with you to drink a litre or two. 22 months ago

How I did it: I bought a flight way in advance so that I had no excuses. This is one of those things that you can either talk about doing or do, right? Book travel and accomodation and don't let anyone talk you out of it. If you love beer, this is a must-do. I usually like to travel alone, but this is one event that is a lot better with a group for a host of reasons. Read how I did it… 3 years ago
...sobering up in Vienna for a few days and then going back to finish it off. I will post a picture soon. 3 years ago
I put a deposit on a hotel for my brother and I for this year. Barring any set backs, it is on! 4 years ago
...after reading about one person’s experience at the Oktoberfest in Germany, and how it was more of a chance for the older, less classy folks to pack on makeup and dress in strange clothes, I thought, “Maybe this isn’t really one of the mere 43 things I would like to accomplish before I leave this life.” Maybe one day, I’ll visit my Germany and see where my family started, but the Oktoberfest is not at the top of my list. 4 years ago
I lived in germany for about six years…I’m from there actually. Its where I consider home anyway. This is something that people should totally do. And not just because its a chance to have a chug but the people there are great. The events are so much fun. Enjoy it! 4 years ago
Yep, that is me. I am an official Oktoberfest girl.
Not quite what I expected (I went on a roller coaster there!) but it was a blast nonetheless! 4 years ago
I started going to Oktoberfest years ago – I loved it so much, I decided to start bringing small groups of other Americans along with me. It can be such a complex task to find reasonable accomodations and get reservations in the beer tents, so I’ve put together a package deal for people.
Oktoberfest is more than just a big drunken party if you take the time to explore its finer points a bit deeper. Go earlier in the day and enjoy the people you’re with. Feel free to sit with others – you’ll meet people from all over the world! It is a great experience that you’ll never forget! 5 years ago
I’ve done joined the Oktoberfest festivities many times. Held in Bavaria, and starts in the beginning of September because the weather’s better. Definitely something worth attending. Lots of beer for very cheap!!! 6 years ago
Never go on first and last week it is even more busy :)
And the chicken taste beautiful too :) 6 years ago
Oktoberfest in Germany. Imgaine 50-year-old beer maids with makeup caked on their cleavage carrying 10 (yes, 10!) gigantic mugs of beer (1 liter), sausages made out of anything and everything, japanese business men singing “Ein, zwei, besoffen!” and jaded oompah-band leaders oompahing over it all.
No, really, the actual German people that I saw at Oktoberfest were having a great time, all dressed up in their lederhosen and traditional garb. You have to understand, though, that lederhosen are roughly equivalent to cowboy boots here. These are the hicks of Germany. But they know how to have a good time.
I would say it’s worth it if you happen to be there, but don’t go just for Oktoberfest. 6 years ago
but you have to come early to get a place in the big tents. On weekends they are closed because of too much people right after 1 pm. So it is better to go there during the week 6 years ago
Munich reminds me so much of San Francisco, with all the different neighborhoods. Take a day trip down to see Garmish – wonderful people and beautiful countryside.
And there’s nothing like a few mugs of Bavarian beer to make best friends of perfect strangers.
one of the best times I’ve ever had. 7 years ago
Definatly one of the most fun festivals there is. It’s fun seeing normaly reserved Germans let loose and dance on the tables. Highly recommended. 7 years ago
In 1965 I turned 21 and found myself at the Oktoberfest in Germany (the end of a long summer of hitching around Europe). I remember Australians being drunker than I’ve ever seen anyone, diving into the crowds from a platform and being whisked off by ambulances to emergency rooms. And I remember great big “frau” carrying what seemed to be a dozen mugs of beer at a time, knocking people aside with the mugs to clear the way. And I remember laughing nonstop.
Well worth it if you’re 21. 7 years ago
