It was great. We’re going to another one on the 29th.

go figure. hello…. Texas, Laredo, Hot, Hotter, Mexican border. Well suited for anything but ice hockey. Anyways…this should be an easy one to cross off my list. I’ve never been to an ice hockey game, but the old saying “i went to a fight and a hockey game broke out” still sticks in my head. AND I watched that episode of Bones a couple of days ago where Booth was playing hockey. I had no idea they wore so much padding. Football players could be jealous.
As long as things go according to plan, I’ll be going to a Kings game the day after my birthday. Hopefully this will be as fun as I think it will be, and I’ll have had a nice birthday present too.
selfinspired Aspiring to be something more.
I got to hit a WHL game, Portland vs. Spokane, Friday night. Never did I imagine I’d get around to it so soon! We ended up in a suite with a, well, sweet view. Only 1st row could have been better. ;)
This will definitely not be my last hockey game!

This was one of the most thrilling sport events I have EVER been to! I am hooked and plan on buying box seats!! Not only were the players hot but the violence only served to feed my sick fetish and I was riled up all night!!! So glad I did this!
I’ve been going to hockey games for about 3 years now. This season my team (Olimpija from Ljubljana, Slovenia) started playing in a much stronger league, EBEL, which is officially Austrian national league, but this year two Slovenian and a Hungarian team were also in it.
My team started off well, but then things got worse, and for a while they were the second-last team in the league. We found a new coach, let go of two players and bought two new ones. Other teams’ fans were making fun of us, calling our new coach a drunkard, our locker room a retirement home (we do have some of the oldest players in the league), criticizing us for having a lot of foreign players and saying they won’t play as well because their hearts won’t be in it, laughing at our small budget and saying we only bought second-rate players because we can’t afford the good ones… predicting a solid last or second-last place for us at the end of the season.
Fast-forward a couple of months… We’re in the finals, playing against the richest team in EBEL, Red Bull Salzburg. On paper, their budget is about 8 times bigger than ours, and in reality probably even more. Their team is made up of stars who’ve played in the NHL. Everybody said they’d eat us for breakfast, but we’ve won 3 games out of 4, and need only one more victory to win the cup. They’re faster, stronger, have better players, the referees are on their side (in the last game, they scored a goal by literally rolling all over our goalkeeper – the goalie had to go to the hospital after that, and yet, the referees allowed the goal), the league officials definitely aren’t on our side (the team had to pay a fine because some of the fans were accused of vandalism, but it’s ok for Austrian fans to throw car keys and wrenches at our players in the rink!) and yet we’re winning.
I’ve been watching our players leave their blood, sweat & tears on the ice, foreigners and local players alike, playing as a team and not as a bunch of individual stars. I can’t express how much I admire them and what they’ve done. If this were happening somewhere in the US, a movie would’ve already been made.
What I wanted to say with all of this is: passion wins over money, talent, fitness and many other things.
squirrella admits life is full of surprises.
My seats were pretty far away so I couldn’t see the puck most of the time, and not being an avid hockey fan, I didn’t really know what was going on. After a frustrated half hour or so of saying “Why is everyone cheering? Did it go in?” I gave up and spent the rest of the time concentrating on beer and making snide comments to my date about the people around us.

i love hockey more than any other sport, ever. the games are so much more fast-paced and exciting. you never know what’s going to happen because anything COULD happen in a split-second. plus, it seems like the fans are more loyal and united so, that makes the game more interesting, too. i live in nashville, so, i’m grateful that we still HAVE our hockey team…
It’s quite sad but the only hockey game I’ve ever been to are the amateur ones (ie. my friend’s practice or other practice ones at the rec centre). I’m living in one of the legendary hockey cities of the world and have not gone to an Oilers game yet. :(
So I’m living in Canada right now, and I think this is the perfect time to achieve this goal. A couple of my friends go, and I think they have season tickets. So before I move back to Texas I need to go to a game! Where better to go to a hockey game than in Canada?!
