I’ve been meaning to do this for months now.
Turns out all I needed to do was add it as a goal and then suddenly I’m motivated to actually do it.
Found one that would work (all by myself) and then asked a savvy friend to double check my research. He said I found one that would indeed work, but it was 3x more costly than it should have been. He pointed me to another website where I got the same thing much cheaper. It should be here next week. Woo. I’m shocked at myself for spending money on this while I’m trying to save for other things, but really I do spend enough time online that this will make my daily life easier.

I finally accepted that it will be some time before I’ll replace my desktop, so I bought 512 MB of memory to double its RAM. Installation was a little tricky, but I am glad I did not pay FireDog $30 to install it.
Next upgrade: replace by broken CD-RW drive with a DVD-RW drive.

I just recieved my 512 stick yesterday AND installed it myself. Woohoo. Now to order a new 512 stick. Then I can put this goal to rest.

This was worth doing - my computer feels so much happier now - but oh, the terror I had during installation! My new RAM and my old RAM disliked each other, and I had blue screen after blue screen on my first restart. I’m now running with only the new RAM, and kind of unsure that I haven’t damaged it. So, um, warning to those planning to do this: be really careful about buying and installing!
