Went out 6-3-07 2 years ago

I went bar hopping last night.

Some of my friends are in weird moods right now. They don’t return calls, and don’t want to go out, so I decided I need to make some more friends.

(Plus and LAPD officer jumped out and pointed a gun at me and I wanted to distress – but that’s another story.)

First, I bought myself a nice dinner at a little French Café. I had one of their hot sandwiches, and it was much better than I expected. I was a good boy and had the salad instead of fries.

Anyway, so onto the bars, first bar, nothing. Just some cheesy people trying to pick up on each other and others playing pool. I can be really outgoing and friendly, but I decided to see who would come up to me. I think I looked rather good with my new haircut and goatee, and had a nice shirt on. (Man do I sound like some kid doing a blog?)

Then onto another bar, but it was too loud and crowded. So I was going to go home, but decided on different place on the way home. This one was rather friendly, and I had a good time. I met some new people and chatted.

Seems like most of whom I met had recently broken up.
Several seems rather wounded. Still, it was nice to talk with some friendly people. It was a complete change from the other places.

Although, it did get a little awkward, I met a pair of roommate-friends. One eventually asked for my phone number, and I was giving it out. Then the other started protesting – “Why aren’t you giving ME your number?” So I sassed back “Cause you didn’t ask.” Then they asked, and the other one gave up on getting my number, like territory or something.

Note: Once I met a pair of friends and unbenonced to me, they ended up fighting over me. A friendship from childhood was ended because one of them ‘won’ me. I had no interest beyond friendship in either one and was totally shocked and sad when I learned what happened. I hope they made up. I don’t ever want to be in a situation like that again.

Back to the story: So the one I gave my number to would be the one I am more interested. But really, I barely know them and it way to early to even care about that.

It’s funny, how some people, the more they talk, the more they disqualify themselves. I wonder if they notice inside and panic (oh, I’m blowing this!) I’ve had that feeling before, it can be awful.

And I really don’t like people that talk in groups about their sex life. It’s just kinda repulsive to me and I think it ruins the intimacy.

Till next time…

It's getting so easy! 2 years ago

It’s getting so much easier to do this now that the weather is getting nicer. I hated going out during the winter and snow and stuff … and I get so depressed in the winter. I set this goal to make myself stop hermitting and only seeing Donald, who lives here. It worked! I might set this goal again next winter.

Week of 4/29-5/5 2 years ago

On Thursday, Diana and Pete and I went to the Detroit Science Center to see the exhibit of plasticized cadavers – how cool! Donald and I also hosted an enormous party on Saturday night. It might not count as going out, but I saw TONS of my friends at once! The party was a huge success. I also took my friend Jeff to see Spiderman 3 on Saturday morning, as we’d lucked into some free tickets.

Week of 4/22-4/28 2 years ago

On Tuesday I played cards with a small group of friends at one of their houses in Ypsi. On Thursday, I went to dinner and the movies with my mom and Donald. On Saturday, I played in a tournament with another friend. Saturday night, I went up to Lansing to celebrate another friend’s birthday, and afterward I hung out with my best friend for a while. A good week for going out.

Week of 4/15-4/21: Went out to the Smithee Awards on Saturday night with Donald – several friends were there. Also went to a movie sneak preview at U of M on Wednesday with Donald. It’d be nice to go out with other friends, but I keep feeling like there’s just no time. Even as I type it, it’s a lame excuse. Sunday night I called up a friend and he came out for dessert with Donald and I. Maybe this counts?

I should chart weekly progress on this, too, just like everything else, although I think I’m doing all right. For this goal, “go out” is defined as not just to a restaurant, but to an event of some sort, preferably a social one. I don’t like to lose touch with people, or with my own social skills.

Week of 4/1-4/7: Went to karaoke with Rich at Maplewood Lanes, sang 2 songs. It wasn’t very fun. The people Rich knew were drunk and not that nice to be with, and nobody liked anything I sang. I didn’t really have a good time.

Week of 4/8-4/14: Went to murder mystery dinner theater with Donald on Saturday night, and three baseball games over the weekend, too. I loved the dinner theater!
