Having two wisdom teeth extracted tomorrow. 5 months ago

What fun!

Thankfully, three of my wisdom teeth are nicely within reach, and will only require a local anaesthetic. My dentist is taking out the two on the my right side, so that I can still eat on the left.

They don’t cause any pain, but they’ve caused my teeth to become crowded and irregular – and the angle of the top right tooth makes it particularly difficult to get the toothbrush behind it. I wanted to have them removed now, before they can cause any real problems.

I’ve never had a tooth removed before. I’m not fussed about the dentist or the procedure itself – the only thing about which I’m slightly worried is how my dodgy TMJ will react if it has too much force applied. Oh – and I’ve managed to chew a nice hole in my lower lip this week. Hopefully it’ll be healed enough by tomorrow that it doesn’t split when I open up my mouth. (Luckily, lips seem to heal quickly.)

My appointment is tomorrow morning. In the afternoon, I have a 2.5 hour drive to stay with my Grandmother for the weekend. (My parents are away until Monday, and Grandma gets a bit wobbly these days.) My mum dropped off a batch of vege soup to Grandma’s, so I’ll have something easy to eat for tomorrow night – just in case.

Ugh. 6 months ago

Going to the doctor this afternoon. I’ve had this cold for a week now and am still seeing green. (I probably don’t need to explain much more than that.) I can deal with having a cold, but last night I bent down to pick up my shoes and felt some serious discomfort around my right cheekbone. It also hurts if I tilt my head over to the right.

Not at all keen on the idea of a sinus infection, so figured I should check with my GP to make sure it doesn’t get any worse. I’m hoping it won’t require antibiotics.

I’m contemplating the purchase of a Neti Pot for nasal irrigation – yet another purchase/change that’s been under consideration for a while. Anybody had any experience with one of these, or nasal irrigation in general?

Dentist appointment scheduled. 6 months ago

The last time I had a dental check-up was prior to leaving Melbourne, so I’m a little over-due. I did consider going to a dentist in the UK, but was frightened by horror stories told by those around me.

I spoke to the dentist over the phone and he sounds lovely. (I wasn’t expecting him to answer the phone. One of the quirks/perks of living in a regional city, I suppose!) Hopefully his dental skills are ‘lovely’, too.

The appointment will be covered by my private health insurance. I’ve finally started using some of the ‘extras’ cover for which I’ve been paying – first the chiropractor, now the dentist. Next it might be time to replace my glasses, which I’ve had since 1998 and are all scratched up.

Strange, but true. 6 months ago

My last entry for this goal, way back whenever, was about the cold I was suffering at the time… and here I am again. Came down with a nasty cold last Thursday and I’m still trying to recover. (At least my head doesn’t hurt so much this time!)

I don’t think it helped that the weekend was one of very little sleep. There’s a story there involving two trips to and from Melbourne, cute little kiddies not sleeping much, plus a trip to the emergency room for one of the gorgeous-but-not-sleeping bubs. Add all that to my stuffed up nose waking me continually on both Friday and Saturday nights – and you have one very tired LL.

Yet, here I am… up at 1am. Such a dingbat.

Going to bed…
right…
this…
minute.

I suppose this belongs here. 17 months ago

I’m sick, with a nasty cold. My body is full of ache, and my throat is sore. I’m tired, but can’t sleep. It feels as though my sinuses are going to explode. The temptation to relieve the pressure by drilling a hole into my skull is strong. (Although, I admit that could be influenced by having seen skull hole-drilling on Grey’s Anatomy the other day.)

Sadly, I’ve been better about eating healthy foods and starting to drink more reasonable amounts of water. I’ve also been making an effort to get back into good routines with moisturising and such. Where’s the positive reinforcement?

The positive part is that I’m allowing myself a day of rest to get over this thing. Guilt usually gets the better of me, resulting in me hauling my sorry self into work. Not really good for me, not good for my work, and certainly not good for my colleagues. (Mind you, I suspect I got this from colleagues who came into work unwell last week.)

On a side note, to cheer myself up, I’ve booked a ticket to go and see one of my favourite artists, Lior. He’s playing in London in August. (He’s also playing the SpiegelTent in Edinburgh, but I can’t make it to those two shows.) I saw two of his shows in Melbourne, back in 2006. I love his music. I’ve invited a friend along, but I’m going even if she can’t make it.

I just ate... 22 months ago

bananas with cream and sugar.

Okay, okay… so perhaps it could more accurately be described as a (large) bowl of cream with sugar, topped with a sliced banana to disguise how disgraceful it truly was. Regardless, I’m feeling slightly icky right now. (Serves me right.)

I’m pleased to say however, that even though I may have just eaten a bowl-full of cream… and that I haven’t been running in ages... I have been eating quite well, overall. We’ve been cooking up some really yummy, healthy, bursting-to-the-seams-with-veggies meals. We’re all feeling quite good as a result.

It’s a start, that’s for sure.

Meaning... 2 years ago

make sure the food I’m consuming is good for me; drink more water (ah, that old goal again); get more sleep (which is exactly what I should be doing right now); and get some exercise.

I did motivate myself to get out and run this evening. Didn’t go very far, but just the fact that I did it was a great start. Oddly enough, my horoscope for today (which I read after the fact), was:

Oct 2 2007

If you have a regular physical exercise routine, try to mix it up a bit today. Doing the same thing over and over again is boring for you, and it’s boring for your body. And if you do not have any sort of regular physical routine, today you definitely need to start one. Even if it’s something small – like taking a walk at lunchtime, or walking upstairs instead of taking the elevator—it will make a big difference in your energy level and in your attitude today.

Freaky.

On that note, time for bed!
