become more familiar with the works of Shakespeare

This was a bit of a disappointment. It was done in a very minimalist style, and while the acting was great, I would have preferred a little more spectacle (and blood!)

I saw a production of Verdi’s Macbeth at the movies Saturday. The New York Met is broadcasting live performances to theaters around the country. It was worth the $22 I paid for a ticket. I plan to attend more operas at the movies this season.

I’ve always wanted to see Macbeth live, but reading it will have to do for now. The Dallas Opera is presenting Verdi’s Macbeth next month, but it’s awfully expensive. Right now I’m just reading it and looking at Sparks Notes on each scene. When I finish it, I plan to purchase the 1979 film with Ian McKellan and Judi Dench.
