The most important thing is to find a teacher or mentor who truly believes in you. Not all teachers are created equal and while some people may think she’s the best teacher in the world, she may not be the right one for you. Try lots of different teachers till you find the perfect match. Then practice tons and stay inspired!
How to be a professional bellydancer
How I did it: I started bellydancing with a teacher who really didn't believe in me. She made me feel terrible about myself and really made me believe I was a bad dancer. Thankfully I loved dancing so much that I didn't pay attention and just carried on. After two years I found a new teacher who instantly saw potential in me and encouraged me to start training seriously. After a year with her I am now a professional dancer and have already even travelled overseas to dance.
Lessons & tips: Find a teacher/mentor who believes in you.
Most importantly, believe in yourself and don't let anyone else make you doubt your goal.
Even more important, don't give up! Stay inspired.
Resources: An amazing teacher.
DVD's (e.g. bellydance superstars) to keep me inspired.

I’ve been belly dancing since September, and I learned from a great teacher and a group of extraordinary women. Granted, I’m the youngest girl in my class by probably ten years compared to a younger girl, but age doesn’t matter in this dance. I’d love to become a more experienced dancer! I’m looking for classes, and someday hope to have a career in this art of sensual dance.
