Started one…I’m liking it so far. I just need to stick with it. My goal is to have one written over the winter. This will distract me from the horrible horrible cold…and maybe help me from becoming a zombie. Then in the spring, I’ll be done….

I'm doing it! 6 months ago

I started to write a book! It is called, “I am Zanna” It is about a 15 year-old girl named Suzanna who is…well, troubled. She is a goth and she has been to a juvenile correction Facility. Several times. Her mom died when she was 9, and her dad died when she was 2. She lives with her 23 year-old brother, Jared. But when Jared dies in a car crash, she has to move to Maryland with her uncle that she has never met before! Worse yet, she has to leave behind her boyfriend of 3 years, Cody. What will happen to her? Even I don’t know yet!

The Start 11 months ago

I’ve paired up with a good friend of mine who is an artist. We’ve started outlining the story, gathering stylistic ideas and fleshing out characters using Google Docs. We’re meeting later this week to figure out a nice method for getting this done. I’ve got the story in my head, but need a great way to convey everything.

Well, I guess that was inevitable (I mean, hey I’m writing a script, not a novel, although this script is likely to hit 50k words eventually). I’m happy I’m writing again, though. While I have nowhere near enough time to write 50k by the end of the month, I am surprised that I’ve had time to write at all, given my current circumstances. So, good times.

In solidarity with my NaNo brethren, I am going to try and finish the script to my comic. I don’t imagine I’ll be able to do it, but I hope I’ll at least get somewhere with it.

The story has never been done before. The artwork is already awesome.

Too many ideas... 18 months ago

I have a zillion steps to take before I can begin the journey of writing a graphic novel. My desk, drawing table and walls are crushed by the amount of notes I have on various ideas for a GN. The major hurdle I’m encountering is originality. Although I love the mainstream “superhero” stuff, I would prefer to write the “Great American Graphic Novel”.

Who wouldn’t?

O hai. I haven’t written about this in a while because there’s not been much to report on my end in terms of progress. But along the way I’ve been asking a couple of creators for advice, and if it could all be summed up into one sound bite, the number one piece of advice I’ve been given is to finish what I start. And that is what I was planning to do in earnest last month when I finally used up some of the vacation time I had for my first vacation ever since I graduated from school… and then my endocrine system went haywire and I spent that week going to the doctor for various tests and whatnot. And the rest of my vacation time this year will be spent on semi-obligatory family things, so basically I blew my first shot to make a dent in this script in four years, and my next shot at a similar opportunity is a year away.

I’m getting gray hairs over this. Right now I need the health insurance this uberstressful and unhappy job provides in order to survive, but what I really need eventually is a different job in a completely different industry, maybe even something part-time, if I want to get this done on something less than a geologic time scale.

I love graphic novels and I really would love to be a published writer and artist of a cult series.
