get along with my dad

When I was a little girl we got along ok – but as I’ve grown older I find that all my dad wants to do is pick arguments, put me down and be little me.

I’ve done what most people would fail on. I started completely fresh in life, I got a job, became good at it and made whole new friends all as the opposite sex. I sometimes wonder how I got this far, walking into that interview room and asking for a job among all the other things I’ve done. I’d say its a pretty big acheivement.

Getting on with my dad however is never going to happen, I’ve been easy on him, attempted to ease him into it and allow him to adjust (which is laughable, hes still at square one) in his own time. It’s now been a good couple of years since I went ahead with it all. If you count how long he’s been aware then you can add a couple of more years on top of that, but when he’s so ashamed of me that he would rather walk to the village and back, 30 minutes each way in the freezing cold wind and rain than be seen in public with me its quite obvious he will never adjust.

Quite frankly, thats his loss even if it is a little sad, he’s the one who had to suffer the wind and rain when he had the option for a couple of minutes drive in my car.

I’m giving up on this goal.

I think this is an impossible goal for me, he hates the very person i am and has done for a few years now. I will never change who i am as i’m not a bad person and i hated who i once was.

I would like to get on with him tho, perhaps find a common ground or something and although things arent perfect right now we have been getting on a little better recently

DOES EVERY SINGLE GIRL IN THE WORLD HAVE THIS PROBLEM? DAD’S ARE JUST SO DIFFERENT. I DON’T KNOW IF THERE IS REALLY A POINT IN TRYING TO GET ALONG WITH MY DAD. WELL, OF COURSE THERE ARE EXTREME BENEFITS TO IT, BUT I MEAN, IS IT REALLY POSSIBLE?

So today my dad is in town for some church thing so he wants to have supper tonight. It’s only supper but I’m starting to get anxious, especially since I’m not sure if Jason can make it. We have been really cordial with each other lately, but I know that he is very disappointed with me right now and it kills him to pretend he isn’t.

My dad called me today to wish me a happy 24th birthday and to also tell me that he loved me more than my education. I never knew that. He’s an ivy league graduate so I never knew there was anything more important than my degree (or lack there of so far). I started crying, but I don’t think he knew. I don’t think I can mark this off as something I’ve accomplished yet but it’s definitely a start.

I can always find a post secret to explain every emotion I’ve ever had.

everything i do is wrong and he just wont except me for me and i have tried everything and he just still seems to hate me i am never allowed to do anything..I have a job i am trying to get good grades and i have tried everything to get him to care about me and gain his trust to let me do things but i have tried everything and it wont work i am trying to do everything i can..but i just can’t seem to..get anything right..any advice to help me?
