Read A Chapter From My English Novel!
Both my parents are Polish, but since I live in Australia (have my whole life) I never really picked it up, I started practicing it about 6 months ago and am quite fluent when it comes to speaking, though not nearly fluent enough. I also want to learn to read and write in Polish. Basically, I want to be as good at Polish as I am at English. Peace.

Pan Tadeusz is THE classic of Polish literature. I’ve started to post a bitext on my blog (http://joregan.blogspot.com/) – first a section in English, then the same section in Polish—I find that if I already understand what something says, it sinks in quicker.
The English translation is roughly of the same vintage as the Polish, so both parts of the text have the same sort of ‘old’ feel to them. If anyone wants more, like vocabulary notes, old vs. new Polish, or even smaller chunks of text, just leave a comment.

Ugh, where to begin?
My fiancee is from Poland. speaks immaculate English thank god, but most of his family does not.
I want to learn so badly, but can hardly make half the sounds (especially one that’s somewhere between a “ch” and a “t” in English…) He tries to help, but it’s hard for him to teach more than individual words.
Most likely going to Poland after the wedding next summer and oh boy, I need to get moving on this so I’m not 100% lost.

is jamming to B-52's, Alizee, and Enya all at once.
Poland is just so romantically awesome.
I am half Polish to boot.

I’ve learned it several or more years ago ;p
I’m surprised that people from other countries want to learn it! Is it interesting? or challenging? because Polish isn’t the easier language in the world ;)

is back from Poland & excited that I am actually ENGAGED!!! :-)
I got back on track yesterday like I said I would. I have decided to start over on my discs, even though I have mastered the first few lessons, I just thought it for the best. So I quickly listened to the first lesson on the drive home last night and remembered all of it! Yahoo! And this morning I did part of the second lesson. I remembered all of that too. With only 14.5 lessons to go and plenty of days to do those, I should be golden. I am going to try and have all of the lessons complete over the next month and let it soak in. Then hopefully I will have time to redo the lessons and start on another lessons disc my bf bought for me awhile ago. This one is computer based and so will help me to recognize reading words.
So I am on my way! :-)

I have been seriously slacking. When I met my bf and we started dating a year and a half ago, I was interested in learning his language. We would do a word a day. A silly word – cat, what, yes. But eventually that died down. Then about a year ago? Or more? I bought the Pimsluer CD series. I was so gung ho about it, I mastered the first couple lessons in no time, doing the regimented 30 minutes per day, no more no less. Then that faded away and I only got to about lesson 4 or 5 out of 16. Well now I am actually going to Poland in… less than 2 months, and I have yet to pick back up on the lessons. I don’t want his family to think I’m a deaf mute because I don’t understand a word they’re saying. His family and friends here already shun me because I don’t speak Polish. Ugh. I need to get back on track with this goal – ASAP!!! I have updated my iPod, put all 16 lessons on, it is charged, I have it with me. I need to get back to listening to a lesson on the drive home everyday which is a bit less than 30 minutes but I could always sit in the car or finish the next time. I just need to do it! JUST DO IT!!! :-)

I was born in poland and moved here when I was real small, barely talking. So I can’t write it, and can barely properly speak it anymore since my family insists on english in the home. I plan on moving back to Warsaw in a few years with the rest of my family, but need to touch up my skills. Re-learn in a sense really.
