I have graduated from university and want to move to Berlin because of its eclectic culture. So many different people and nationalities there. I think I will enjoy it a lot.
I have studied business but actually do not want to work at an office from 9 to 5 as a sales miep. I hope to find a nice job at some kind of art/ cultural place and meet likeminded people. My German understanding is intermediate but speaking is a bit rusty. But I reckon that will improve once I speak it every day.
How to move to Berlin
How I did it: I gave up my apartment in Hamburg andwent to live woth a friend in Berlin. Now that I'm here I can look for m own apartment. The real estate market in Berlin is better than the one in Hamburg and it's gonna be easy to find something pretty and cheap. I'll just search for it on the internet.

johnnyking is nearly done painting my house!
I fell in love with Berlin a few years back when we visited before returning to New Orleans. I am ready to make the move but my girlfriend is not quite as ready. In the states I have lived in New York, San Francisco, and New Orleans. Berlin is a logical next step!!!
everything is better in berlin. remember the love parade. chris please for your own good please move to berlin.
I have been looking up businesses online that buy houses (not realtors, more like resellers). I think this might be the way to go, depending on how much my house is worth and how much they offer.
I really wish I’d done this last September. I was feeling too uncertain, though.
Quick update…I ordered an online TESOL course this past Sunday. Completing it will qualify me to teach English as a second language, which will help with the whole job thing. As a free bonus before the end of the month, I got the course in teaching English to children, too. I’d have rather had the business English course, since that’s my background, but hey, it’s free. And you never know.
I also contacted my ex about selling the house. He was quite polite and asked to be kept informed on how it went. So that was a relief.
I might end up going to Germany through South Korea. Lots of money being poured into learning English there. But we’ll see what and where my qualifications land me.
Ugh: I am now where the rubber meets the road. I have to get in touch with my former mother-in-law to find out where my ex-husband is. None of our old mutual friends know of his whereabouts. His name is on the house. I need to sell the house. Ugh. I do NOT want to do this.
Ugh: I also have to rearrange my finances and start saving mucho dinero. Moving is turning out to be an expensive proposition. I knew it would be, but good god…
Goodie: I’m going to start a TESOL course next month with a firm that guarantees jobs upon completion of the course. That, plus my master’s degree and university teaching experience, makes the future significantly brighter. I may not start out in Berlin or in Dublin, but this is going to make it easier for me to get there eventually.
Yesterday I had lunch with the friend who said he’d be my Dublin roommate. We talked more about it and set up a timeline. Looks like this is really gonna happen!
