i dont know about you guys, but i really wanna meet a mermaid or merman. when i was little, i was on vacation in europe and as i dived down to look for seashells, i heard a man’s voice saying, “Don’t worry….I’m here…” i gasped in fright, swallowed water and tried to get to the surface. But the surface was too far up for me to swim without air, but i tried anyway. The next thing i knew, something like a wave pushed me up and i broke through the surface. Now, thanks to my dad’s house, i live in europe with my family. I’m 14, almost 15 and ive tried to find him, but had no luck. I know how to speak a little mermish, only enough to make sentences like: i mean no harm, im a friend, and stuff like tht. id really like to hear ur stories if uve befriended one or not!

A mermaid (from the Middle English mere in the obsolete sense ‘sea’ + maid(en)) is a legendary aquatic creature with the head and torso of human female and the tail of a fish. The male version of a mermaid is called a merman; the gender-neutral collective noun is merfolk. Various cultures throughout the world have similar figures. They were known to sing sailors to their deaths, like the Siren, or squeeze the life out of drowning men, while trying to rescue them.
The Sirens of Greek mythology are sometimes portrayed in later folklore as mermaids; in fact in some languages the name sirena is used interchangeably for both creatures. Other related types of mythical or legendary creature are water fairies (e.g. various water nymphs) and selkies.

Its funny, i was never one of those kids who believed in father christmas or the easter bunny yet part of me kind of believes in mermaids (and vampires). I am realistic and do understand that its probably just my very active imagination but i cant help wondering that maybe its possible to befriend a mermaid…ludicrous i know.
