I spontaneously asked my teacher if I could rent a school french horn for 50 dollars
I already play trombone, and so far it’s been pretty easy started on f.h.
i still have a far way to go….
I make my living as a professional horn player. I suppose I could say I have “learned” it already, but to me this is a perpetual goal. If someone thinks that they’ve finished with something like this, they’ll live their lives in a state of arrested development, unable to reach their true potential.
I love the french horn. When you do something for so many hours a day, you can forget, but I’m making it my mission in life to never forget why I do it. I love it. Its one of the few things in life that make me truly happy. The horn (or french horn if your not very pretentious) is the only instrument that can make me weep with a single note. Thats power. That is what life is about.
I love playing the horn because it is powerful enough to overpower an entire band or orchestra, yet delicate enough to blend with a woodwind quintet.
When i started playing in 5th grade, i hated it. but over time, i fell in deep love. It’s the best instrument out there and you can get some sweet parts! I love it! After playing the french horn ive had no desire to play any other instrument. :) Its my baby.
I started playing 5 years ago when i was in year 7. I am still not perfect but i love playing the horn so much. I have always wanted to play music in my future, going from violin to piano then to tenor horn. I would have been happy staying on any of these instruments but when I learnt frech horn in order to go to my high school I loved it so much more then any of the other instruments.
I Started on clarinet and moved on to this instrument to help the balance of the band. Fell in love after I learned to play it right. Beautiful instrument that brings the perfect power and sound for a band or an orchestra.
The Horn is the most beautiful instrument. It looks the nicest, sounds the nicest.
When I was in orchestra, my section-mate used to makes jokes about how the cello only sounds good because it sounds like a horn :P
I love my French horn. If my place were on fire, it would be the first thing I grab. Well, also because I can’t grab the piano.
I’ve played since I was in 5th grade and it’s been a great part of my life. I’ve played in concert bands and orchestras and even a marching band. I won a trip to NYC to march in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in high school.
Now I mostly play in a brass quintet.
It’s the greatest thing to play in a group and you just feel the vibration and the interconnection between the parts. It just feels so good when the chords really “buzz” when they’re in tune.
The horn is just such a rich, gorgeous-sounding thing (well, on good days)...don’t you ever get chills when you hear the horns surging in a movie score during some dramatic scene?
I do.
I am a horn nerd.

maryannabella asks,
“I just inherited my brother's french horn and i'd love to start playing it but can't afford lessons right now. Any hints on how to start? I can't even get a sound out of it. I am musically literate, have taught piano and recorder.”
