I finished with reviews and everybody on my team gave me unsolicited confirmations that I was doing everything a good manager should be doing. It takes constant attention, but it’s very much worth the effort.

Not for me 21 months ago

After having been in management for a bit, I think I have a ways to go to be good. I’m also not even sure I liked my experience, but that’s not to say I may not venture that way later.

so says my boss... 2 years ago

I just received my one year review and she had excellent things to say about my managerial skills, so I guess I’ve accomplished this goal!

They can stand under my umbrella..... 2 years ago

“Some of them need you to hold their hands, and you should. Others need you to kick their asses, and you absolutely should do that, too. But, it really all just comes down to whether or not you got the guts to say just exactly what you know in your heart of hearts you really should say.”
Dr Cox, Scrubs

The above perfectly sums up how I feel a good manager should operate. Some workers will simply do the work and you can pat them on the back. Some workers just need to be hawked on non stop until they understand who wears the cowboy chaps and holds the whip.

But above all, never take it too seriously!
It might not ever be as good as it can get.
But it’ll never be as bad either.

Promotion 2 years ago

I was just promoted to Sales Manager and I am afraid to let my boss and my employees down. I have no management experience so I don’t know where to start. Hopefully I will make myself proud.

So how does one go about this? 3 years ago

What steps to take to achieve this goal? In addition to practice, are there any good books to read? Any recommend articles, classes, or discussion groups?
