How I did it: i learned html as a teen out of sheer boredom. i used books from the library and trial-and-error using the html-view option on AOL Press (which no longer exists... this was 1995 lol). I have listed some more current books below...since then i have moved onto more complex languages but knowing html has made me a lotta moola over the past 13 years. Read how I did it…

I am taking a course that will help me create a website. So far I have had to create four different web pages. While they were all basically the same format, I hope to switch it up soon and get a little more variety
At some point I’ll get frustrated enough with my blog to dig in and learn html. It’s not something I need every day, but it’s a good skill to have.
I suppose this ties in with learning more about computer, I think I know the basics of computers, and a few html tricks from livejournal, w3school, neopets, gaia, etc. but as far as knowing what exactly what I’m doing I’m a bit a ways off. I’m struggling with something on livejournal at the moment.

Gotta love those Sams Publishing “Brain surgery in 24 hours” books. I can’t tell you how many languages i’ve learned using those (HTML/XHTML, XML, PHP, C#, etc). They’re great starters and by no means the only book you should read for certin languages like C#, C++, and Perl to name a few. The hardest part about HTML is remember which tags have closing pairs.
Don’t forget to learn about writing W3C compliant code. You can learn more at http://www.w3schools.com/
I have yet to put anything on a blank webpage. Right now, I am posting exercises to a blog at my main site, which is boring as hell.
I know a lot of Linux webauthors like gedit, but I think I’ll take a look at Screem and open a free webpage somewhere to start playing with that.
Its been a long time since I’ve posted on 43things. I learned HTML and XHTML, now I’m studying CSS (pretty much have that down too). Its definitely worth it. I would recommend: Head First – HTML with CSS & XHTML by Elisabeth Freeman & Eric Freeman (O’Reilly Books)
Just finished the class. Wasn’t very hard. The thing with HTML is that it just takes practice.
I’m signed up for the advanced class in the Fall. That one will include CSS, Javascript etc.

Totally better than using WYSIWYG editors. It’s pretty simple to learn and once you get the basics, you can look up whatever tags you want on google. Really useful especially since many WYSIWYG sites/programs don’t always do just what you had in mind.
Oh, and the way I learned was on Virtual University, which offers a really good class online. I think it was $15.
