Several years at a pick-your-own place. 10 months ago

They grow a different variety that doesn’t have as long a shelf life as what you find in grocery stores, but they are much sweeter.

One hot summer..... 15 months ago

one of my first jobs as a teenager, when I turned 13, was picking berries in the berry fields. It was a hot, messy job, with hot juicy berry drippings everywhere, but very fun to do with friends. The berry fights were the best. Slug holes were the worst. The worst part was the money, and I remembering struggling to fill enough containers to make a buck. Nevertheless, it taught me many good things about hard work, and today I am a better person for it!

Pyxidragon is time travelling for the weekend. Mostly.

We’re lucky enough to have a pick-your-own strawberry/raspberry farm about five miles from the house, so I take my boy there every year to pick a few pounds of each in season for eating & preserves

Finally 20 months ago

This June we took our little nephew strawberry picking, oh what fun :o) We all got wonderfully dirty and ate yummy strawberries right off the field. Then we went home with a big bucket of strawberries to eat later. Worth doing!

PYO - way to go 23 months ago

Find a PYO farm and spend a lazy weekend morning picking and scoffing fresh strawberries. It’s a great family thing to do.

Regrettably, this summer, the strawberry crop has been a failure round here, as it has been too wet :-(

It’s sad wandering down rows of plants with blighted fruit. Raspberries were OK though :-)

well, here’s a goal that’s not going to change the world.

But I love strawberries. More than chocolate, more than green tea ice cream (though it’s a close call) and, yes, quite possibly, more than sex. Let’s be honest: sex is, for the most part, over-rated. Strawberries are not. Especially Japanese strawberries, which are grown in order to taste nice and not according to the ridiculous specifications of the British consumer, who rejects anything that is not at least as large as a good size coconut, regardless of the impact on the fruit’s flavour. When I first arrived here, I couldn’t believe it was the same fruit. I thought I was going to cry out of sheer delight at the taste of them, melting into my mouth.

Ahh, strawberries.

The next town along has loads of strawberry picking fields, letting you pick as many as you want for the bargain price of 700 yen, but I know that unless I put this on my list, I’ll lie around squandering summer until the strawberries have all gone and there’s nothing left for me to pick except my nose.

So, Saturday morning, bike ride to Pippu, strawberries I shall pick.

I did this several times at the Bellevue Berry Farm in Bellevue, Nebraska.

I enjoy doing this every year with my friend Chris. This will be our 3rd year. It is lots of fun picking and eating. Recommend this for a fun date.

Not worth it as a job. 2 years ago

I did this several summers in Europe to allow me the opportunity to live overseas. It was the hardest job I have ever had. Bending over all day long, working in the hot sun, it’s not worth it as a way to make a living.

For fun, it would be alright. I still love to eat strawberries. I just think about how much work it is to get them to the store…

I can't wait. I wish it were summer now! 2 years ago

I picked strawberries a couple of years ago when I was a cild and it was great fun. Now, I’d love to do it again but in winter there are no strawberries to pick… :(
