I’m happy to report that I finished the 2008 LA marathon yesterday!! It was gruelling as expected but I’m so glad I did it! The sense of accomplishment that I felt when I crossed that finish line is just immeasurable. Race day was unforgettable, running though the different parts of LA, seeing everyone, families and their children, volunteers, young and old from all parts of LA devoting their time to cheer us on was worth every sore muscle and achy joint (and sunburn). To anyone who has ever toyed with the idea of doing a marathon, I say go for goal and don’t let anyone scare you into not doing it. It was a beautiful experience and it makes me proud to be a part of Los Angeles :)

totally worth doing…first time i ran, i did it b/c my friend said anyone could do it… it took me like 8hours… but the next year i trained and finished in 5hours… WOO HOO!
I finished in 4:44. I’m currently checking into running the Long Beach marathon, and I’m already signed up for next year’s LA. I’m hooked again, and very happy about it.
i think finishing a marathon is an amazing accomplishment and the ultimate test of a person’s will power. i drove past downtown in the middle of the ‘07 LA marathon and was in awe and inspired by everyone who ran. i’m 5’0, weigh 85 pounds, not out of shape but not in any good running shape. i’m determined to run the 2008 LA marathon but am afraid of the health risks. i may do it for charity for the extra push and motivation… i will write back about this in one year…
I finished the City of Angels Half Marathon on Dec. 3rd. Finished in 3:10, which is 28 minutes faster than my first half marathon a few months ago. I think I’ll keep working on getting my time down by working on my form. I’d like to be able to run the half marathon in two hours before I attempt the LA marathon.
It was a lot of hard work, and that “wall” was a killer, but once i got to the end, i felt like i could run another marathon right then. (yeah right) Overall it was an awesome experience and i wanted to do it again this year, because i’m old enough to be a helper in SRLA, which is what i ran it with. However, time just crept up on me and i still have yet to start running regularly again. I think i’ve only ran a couple times since i quit XC my second year of college.
I have a couple other marathons in mind that i really want to run, so i better get up on that if i don’t want to regret it later. I’m still young, so i should take advatage of that and not use it as an excuse.
You will certainly find out how physically and mentally tough you are when you accomplish this goal
Decided to start my training by picking the SF 1/2 Marathon as my milestone for July 30th.
I should probably book the trip and register on the site soon. :)
I did this once upon a time. Then I started smoking, gained weight, etc. Well, the smoking is gone, the weight is gone, and I’m running again. If I do this, I will feel like I’ve come full circle.
