How to lose 10% of my body weight"I still have a lot of weight to lose, but I set out with a mini-goal of losing 10% of my body weight. Having accomplished that makes me all the more determined to keep going!"
How I did it: I started out by logging all of my food on a nutrition site called NutriMirror - it's free, and as long as you are thorough with logging it gives a very accurate picture of where you are getting your nutrition. It made it much easier for me to monitor my calorie intake, and also gave me a great picture of where my diet was lacking. Now I know exactly how much protein, fat, carbs, iron, fiber, calcium, sodium etc (I could go on and on!) I'm getting on a daily basis. I'm eating much more healthily than I ever have before thanks to using this tool. I have also added regular exercise into my life. I started out cycling with my husband, which we both really enjoyed. Now that it's getting too cold to cycle, I've started the Couch to 5k running program, which I'm also really enjoying.
Lessons & tips: Don't give up! The most important thing to remember is that this is a long-term change, and a quick-fix 'diet' isn't going to do it. You may lose some weight at first, but it will all come back if you don't make a lifestyle out of it. If you slip up, forgive yourself and get right back on the wagon - DON'T beat yourself up over it, and don't have an attitude of 'oh well, I blew it, I may as well give up'. You're the only one who can make this change for yourself. Resources: NutriMirror! Also, check out the Couch to 5k running plan. |

How I did it: I started exercising again (I had completely given up) I started walking, then running, doing a little bit of weights (though not as much as I should because weight bore me) and also re-incorporated yoga into my routine. Also, I had to learn portion control. It sucks--but it's important.Started cooking vs. getting take out Took out most processed foods Simple carbs as well(which was most of my diet before) and started trying all kinds of ne… Read how I did it…

How I did it: Weight Watchers. I needed the accoutability of going to weekly meetings. I plan all my food and write down everything I eat. I've recently started exercising which has sped up the weight loss to where I really feel it. Read how I did it…
sparklybee is sad, but trying to move forward.
How I did it: I've lost 83 pounds so far and have 79 more to lose. I don't have a magical diet or pill that worked for me; to lose the weight, I simply watched what I ate (1500 calories or less per day) and exercised three times a week (at least an hour each time). I lost around 30 pounds (that was about 10% of my body weight when I started) in about three months this way. Read how I did it…

I’ve decided I need an interim weight loss goal so am going to try for my 10% goal.
mrsrad just is.
Its been less than two weeks (10 days to be exact) to lose the first 2%, I’ll be the rest will be a lot harder. One step at a time.
mrsrad just is.
I’ve been sticking to my eating plan this week and have lost the first 1%. I think I will focus on % of weight lost rather than pounds—don’t know why except that it seems like a more reasonable and acheivable goal.

By getting back onto my eating plan. My hope is to lose that 10% by June 21st—first day of summer.

For me 10% is 27 pounds. This is also about how much I gained this year. Ugh. It’s a good place to start, but I’m not sure of the time I should assign. December seems unrealistic. I’m just going to leave it open ended so that I won’t ‘fail’ and give up, because this is something I really need to do for myself.

This is my next mini-goal on my weight loss journey. I already hit 20 and if I’m really good I can hit 25 next week, but it will more likely be two weeks from now. That’s ok, I can wait patiently.
I lost the first 10%, but have stayed at the same weight now for a couple of months. Time to get moving and do the next 10%. That’s 22.5 lbs – call it 23. My goal is to do it by early November.
