Because Vancouver is the insular kind of town where something that fascinates you might be going on down the block without your ever knowing, when you find an aspect of secret wholesome fun poking up it can be worth your while to subscribe to its mailing list, especially if it’s likely to report on similar events of whimsical bounty—Vancouver has for instance a pretty good track record on flash mobs.
While promoting events I help to run (doing my bit to help make Vancouver more interesting) I do what I can to help spread the word about other esoteric happenings I find out about from various sources, generally reposting a digest of sorts once a month over at http://community.livejournal.com/vancouverarts/
Someone wrote in to thank me for turning them on to the 2nd annual Noise Pancake Breakfast. Do they plan on going? No—but it makes them glad to know that it just exists. I don’t mean to specifically plug my listings; the backs of newspapers and even laundromat bulletin boards and the sides of streetlamps often yield access to secret wholesome fun you might otherwise stumble onward totally unaware of. Keep your eyes open and you just might uncover something worth reporting back here.

Sisters are in town and I had to play tour guide. We did the usual things that the guide books recommended but I noticed that there was so much more to Vancouver that is being missed in those pages! For example the Richmond Night Market! Its open Fri, Sat & Sun until midnight, a great place to go in the evenings. Be sure to save room for lots of street food and don’t forget to pick up some great knock off sunglasses!

yeah, i have to admit that one reason i put down this goal was that i just want to see peeps from vancouver. well, i also have reclusive tendencies which i want to work on overcoming, so i’m hoping to get motivated from this and get out there, but i also like seeing a congregation, if small, of vancouverites. happy exploring!

I’ve heard of that…(I live in Tsawwassen)..I might do that when I get a bit older…I love being out at night and lazily watching stars.

I think, if anyone joins me in this, we should tell each other about the places we find. So, since I started this (for Vancouver), I’ll go first. Go to www.fvas.net It’s the Fraser Valley Astronomers Society. Then go to their Calendar page to see when they are doing things. The go out to McDonald Park alot and set up their telescopes and anyone can go out there and have a look. If you go on a clear night in late August or Sept. you can see the actual rings of Saturn. If you’ve never really seen a thing like that live you have no idea how cool it really is. Anyway, that’s #1.
