My family (my husband, daughter, 2 dogs and myself) moved to Wyoming from Michigan. We moved for a couple reasons, one because my husband had a job here and my place was with him, two just before we were to move I lost my best friend, my Mother. Every street I walked down, every corner I turned, every place I went reminded me of her. My family, because of jelousy I suppose because she and I spent every day together we went on vacation every year and she was very instramental in raising my daughter, has made me feel like I used my Mother and was no longer welcome in her home though I was the ONLY one out of 8 children took care of her. Shoveling her driveway, cutting her grass, plucking her weeds, rubbing her feet, changing light bulbs, winterizing her home, what ever she needed done. Since we have moved here my husbands job fell through and is now working for just over minimum wage and I too work for just less than he. Our daughter is 12 and is doing well in school, playing the saxaphone for the school band and plays basketball (they are 8 & 2). I am very adamit about keeping her away from the wrong crowd and away from drugs. I’ve done well so far, but I know it takes me being around so she knows how much I care for her future, for goodness sake she will be taking care of me someday. The majority of our paychecks go to rent and utilities, the rest to gas to get back and forth to work and food. We have very little if anything when everything is said and done. We are sad to realize that this year again will be a very skimpy Christmas, but I guess I raised our daughter well because she said as long as we are together and we are able to be warm and fed we are better off than alot of people and she is right. If I can’t afford to give her presents I would at least like to be able to give her clean clothes. Could you please help us. I look forward to the day when we have gotten out selves out of this situation and we can give to those who need it. Happy Thanksgiving and a Very Merry Christmas or should I say Holiday.

of things that I CANNOT live without.
I just moved and my new apartment has it’s own washer/dryer…not mine to keep, but mine for a while and just as good! No more collecting quarters.

It’s really nice having the convenience, but it was a lot of money to put out at once. Overall, it was worth it because we’ll have it for a long time to come.
I enjoy the time and money saved and avoid the negative energy I felt at the laundromat… women yelling at their little kids. I had young children then, and it certainly showed me something I didn’t want to expose them to.

I hated going to the laundry mat my whole life. One of the first things we did when we bought our house was get a real bed( no more stupid futon)a refrigerator and a beautiful washer and dryer. I have them in the garage and I keep them wiped down and clean. They are almost 15 years old and the still look new and work so well.
avphibes is getting my household in order
It’s kind of comical that in New York City, even people who are high-earners and live in fancy apartments can consider a washer and dryer of one’s own an “aspirational luxury.” That when I see someone who has their own, I gasp with impressed envy.
It’s only comical because in most of America it’s consdered a given that every average Joe has a washer and dryer in their house.
When me and Richard bought our condo, we already decided where we would put a washer and dryer (there was no hookup, so that will have to get done). We still have to figure out whether we should put in a vent or get a condensation drier. Then we have to actually get everything installed. It’s not even the cost that’s prohibiting me as much as my knowing nothing about water pipes and venting and therefore not even knowing where to begin with getting this done.
I spend $35 everytime I go to the laundromat! That’s really steep considering I dont have many clothes as it is. I don’t like going there either because my clothes get wrecked in three washes or less.
