I’ve really got into the habit of doing this now, and haven’t bought a lunch for months. It’s also changed my eating habits quite a bit as I eat more fruit and fresh veg now and am even making my own flapjacks instead of buying chocolate bars. Don’t know how much I’ve saved – but it must be quite a lot. Hoorah.
I did alright up until Christmas but not so good since. I am moving to another country in seven days though and I’ve had other things to worry about. I’m going to park this until mid-February when I’ll be back in a routine.
My first day bringing lunch in like 2 years, and I open the fridge to put my little tupper ware of rice and shrimp in the fridge only to find that someone’s stocked it with beers! A couple winter warmers and some Sam Adams. This goal is already paying off.
The transition to bringing my own lunch each day took about a year, but I’m happy to report – I love it! It’s nice controlling what you eat, when you eat and how much you’re gonna spend on it. One tough thing is figuring out new things to bring that won’t stink up the office. Last year I spoke with a personal chef who had some creative ideas. You can download the show here:

Brown bag it, baby!
I’m doing really well. Four days out of four so far. I thought that salad and yoghurt wouldn’t fill me up but it does. Throw in a few pieces of fruit in the afternoon and I’m full, healthy and saving money!
I will check this goal off if I can do it for one month.
Hi, I’m FootFace, and I’m a don’t-like-to-bring-my-luncher.
The last few weeks, I’ve been doing great!
I’m marking it off.
I made a salad and took yoghurt and pikelets for snacks and have munched on the fruit provided to us at work. No food purchased all day and everything is healthy (excuse the pikelets). A big tick for me!
I have decided that if between now and Christmas I can make my lunch three days out of five at work each week I will have succeeded.
This goal is motivated by two things:
1. General health benefits
2. I’m about to start a new job that pays much less so it won’t be so affordable.
Here I go…
Now I’m more settled (and we have less money) and I’ve been finding it easier to make and bring lunch in. I’m getting more exciting and healthier things to eat for lunch, as I now plan it and look around for ideas – mango and kiwi fruit salad today – yum. For me, it does help to have a nice compartmented box to bring the food in. I have a lunch cube at the moment, but (when I have more money) want to get a bento box. In fact I’ve been making my own lunch so much, that when I do buy something for lunch I make sure it is in a restaurant, or a really nice sandwich, and it becomes a real treat. In fact, scrub that about buying sandwiches, I do this less and less as I think…I could make better than that for less money… :)
