And then there was four ... Edit. Edit. EDIT!

So... 4 months ago

I was talking to a friend of mine whom I haven’t seen in some time, and we got to talking about how he lives near the coast. So I made plans with him for September and I’m going to drive out there and then we’re heading to the ocean, so hopefully I’ll be able to knock this one off the list here pretty soon!

apparently it CAN in fact be that far. 12 hours is the closest city I can find. 12 freakin hours. That really crimps the whole spontaneous drive idea, but doesn’t completly rule it out. Just have to plan it a little differently.

I have a fear of waves, so this tackles two of my “things to do”

Swim 6 months ago

I don’t care what it takes, I’m knocking this one off the list this summer. I can’t believe that if I’d have died today I would never have seen the ocean. Maybe I’ll just take a spontaneous drive to the coast one of these days. It can’t be that far…

HOMETOWN GLORY Scream loud. Louder.

:D :D 10 months ago

This might actually come true in a bit over a month. Maybe a trip to Mexico is back on? I’ll find out in the next few weeks for sure!!

super, super short term. i live blocks from the ocean. it’s amazing how even living so close to the beach i tend to avoid it on a daily basis. who the hell knows why? within the next few days i have GOT to swim in the ocean. yes…it’s cold as hell in the water right now. but it’s HOT outside and i can stand it! the next few days better find me in the ocean. :)

Bikini Less 12 months ago

I’ve never swam in the ocean in a bathing suit – one piece or two. In fact, I have not worn a bathing suit or swan in any body of water since I was in my teens. I’ve waded in up to my knees a time or two but that’s not swimming. The last time I remember actually putting on a swim suit and getting in a pool was in 1977. After that life happened and I didn’t have the time nor the inclination to swim for swim’s sake. I love to take pictures of water in lakes, rivers, ponds, streams and of course the ocean but never immerse myself fully in them. I’d like to think I equate water with emotion. I see one and avoid the other.

<3 ocean 12 months ago

Swam in the ocean, age 15…eyes stuck like a biotch cause I opened them underwater…learned from my mistake. Then I poked a jellyfish on the beach. Good day.

On Ending This Goal 13 months ago

Winter is here
and it’s getting cold.
I could be cavalier
but I am so very old.
The swimming season is ended,
as the rains begin to fall.
I am warm-blooded,
Yet I hear winters call.
Fear has leasehold
and when frost abates I again will leave landfall.

It's getting colder. 14 months ago

Owe, owe.. aha, eeek, splash, swim…

It is getting colder. It’s only uncomfortable for a few minutes, well maybe 10, but then that pseudo-burning sensation sets in and it’s fine. The real problem, the water is clearer. I can see the bottom. Does this mean the currents are changing? It has also been windy for the last weeks worth of swims. The rolling motion of the ocean is problematic for finding my waypoints in the water. But, it’s the clear water that bothers me. Now, I can see what possibly only used to lurk in the back of my head. There is no real fear. I think I saw some sort of bottom shore dwelling shark today. It might have been a blue shark, but I am not sure. While the water was clear, the area it was patrolling was turbid. It could have been a large lemon shark, but who knows.
