20 minutes!

Wow! I just ran for 20 minutes without a pause.
The snow has melted and it’s a bit moist outside. Normally I run in the morning, but today I went running in the afternoon. I don’t know which of these things worked, but before today the longest I ran without a pause was about six minutes.
I thought I was in pretty bad shape, but I really surprised myself today. Maybe working towards running for 30 minutes isn’t going to take as long as I expected. It wasn’t effordless, but it made me feel very strong. I like it!

So much for the good intentions.
There’s just too much snow to go out running. I’m enjoying the wintery weather, but it’s too slippery for running right now. I’ll just work on my other goals in the mean time. Such as: go iceskating!

Since swimming wasn’t really my thing after all. (I love it, just not as a form of exercise) I had to think of another way to stay fit. Something that would be a real challenge for me: running.
I never run because of a bad experience in high school. I have a mild form of astma, which usually doesn’t stop me from doing anything, but becomes a problem when I start running. My gym teacher at the time didn’t take me seriously and made me run the Cooper test like everyone else. It wasn’t long before I was exhausted and completely out of breath, but my teacher just told me to get over myself and made me finish the whole test, calling me names every time I passed him by. When I was finished, I barely made it back to the locker room where I collapsed, threw up and passed out. No wonder I hated running ever since.
So… why would I like to start running? I was in good physical shape back then, because I went to school by bike (which was an hour and a half total everyday) and I thought I just wasn’t built for running. Now I know it’s from lack of training. With the right training, I should be able to run for 30 minutes and breathe normally. It’ll just take me a little longer to reach this goal than other people. I want to prove to myself I can do this. And hopefully increase my lung capacity and stamina in the process. Now that’s a goal!

OK, it took 6 weeks from after I planned to do it… but that’s OK! I did it, whee!

It looks like I’ll have time. Will I have stubbornness? Well, I’ve said it publicly, so that might help.
